At least saturday is now a win/win..either we pull it off or I don't have to hear again about how every game is a "must win"..because having lost a "must win", the pressure will be off, as all is already lost.

******* this. Remember when everyone said the Mizzou football game was a must win to go bowling? Look how that turned out.

Teams have bad shooting nights it happens. But the little things lost this team the game. My only question is why is a guy that airballs FTs allowed to shot 3s? This team is a lot better than they were 3 weeks ago but have a long ways to go before they are good enough to make the tourny. At this point I think it comes down to them figuring out what it takes to get those hard wins on nights like tonight

Thought our defense was spectacular tonight, overall I thought we actually played Texas better than we did in the first game despite the loss in this one. We went through a stretch where we settled for contested shots and that is when Texas went on their run, had we been patient and run our offense, maybe gotten it inside like we did later on in the game things might have been different. Freddy and the coaching staff of course realized this too and thats why there was more of an emphasis in the second half, they made the adjustments just couldn't quite come all the way back in the end.

Texas and ISU both did not play well last night...id say the reason Texas didn't play well was due to ISU defense and the reason ISU didn't play well was due to VERY bad shooting. Only scoring 3 points in the first 7 minutes of the second half never helps, and its a credit to ISU to be in that game until the end, especially on the road. If shots were falling last night, we could of had another double-digit road win. Teams like ISU will have night like this, but in the past, ISU would folded up and gotten spanked. I like this team and like our chances in every game from here on out.

I thought that the team, as a whole defended pretty well last night. It was pretty clear that TX was picking on SC when they made their big run. If they could have called a couple of the dozen moving picks they put on him, it would have helped.

Fred needs to figure out a way to get SC a few good looks and needs to get Allen and Melvin to stop jacking up so many outside shots. I don't know what percentage Melvin is shooting 3 balls, but it can't be very good. I think teams are letting him have that shot because he can't hit it.

Need to beat KU Saturday. And I think we will. Seems like losses always **** of this team. They don't like to lose.

I agree with you my friend I also think that WE will BEAT the Jayhawks on Saturday.

I enjoyed Royce White's interview and I paraphrase..."We need to win the rest of our games"....quoting sort of Royce White

My Take: Royce is a winner and hates losing as much as I do, this guy might just be at least ONE of the BEST & Motivated players to come to Iowa State in a long time....

Go Get the Jayhawks and Run Them Outta The Building!!!!

How about underhand granny style? Worked for Oli on Hoosiers.

Well being as Old as I am I can still remember Rick Barry leading the nba in free throw shooting using the Under Hand style of shooting free throws.

Shooting Free Throws gets real mental if you let the misses get to you....

Consistent Mechanics make for Great Free Throw Shooters.....Think Mechanics Not Results Just Like on the Putting Green and you will do much better.

By my calculation Melvin is shooting 8% from three in conference play. It is frustrating watching our lower % outside shooters getting baited into taking lower % shots. It is hard for a team to win if they settle for lower % shots. As hard as they worked on defense, they settled far too often for a low % shot on offense.

They are capable of taking high % shots, but it requires mental toughness. Today we lacked that, and squandered a winnable opportunity. If we squander many more, we won't be a tourney team.

I'm old enough to remember Wilt not leading the league in free throws shooting using the underhand style.

People need to chill! Take the good from this game. The team showed a ton of heart. It wasn't their night and they never stopped quitting. They played great defense despite what a lot on here want to say. Shots didn't fall either.

And people need to get off Royce White's back. The dude had 15, 15, and 5 tonight. He led the team in all 3 of those categories and yet some act like he lost us the game.

Excellent post, and I completely agree. We were there at the end despite not being able to throw it in the ocean. This team has certainly improved, can't wait for Saturday.

It was disappointing to hear the frustration in Heft’s voice during the early second half, but there were things that I took away from the game that make me excited for Saturday’s game. It should be the best crowd in Hilton that we have seen for quite some time.

Agree. White essentially leads the team in every statistical category except FT percentage.
