Prestige and Insomnia were meh. Batman Begins and Inception were good but drug on too long. He knocked it out of the park with Dark Knight and Memento.

You can't put him on the same level as Kubrick or Scorcese yet.

I'm not, yet. I agree with you about Insomnia. It had an original idea, decent story, but his trademark execution wasn't quite there yet.

I think the Prestige is underappreciated by a lot of people. Sure, it's a little slow compared to the other movies he's done, but the story and acting were top-notch in this one. Loved the idea that Bale/Jackman were trying to one-up the other by introducing science into their performances. Great ending, too.

By my count that's 6 out of 10 for Nolan. Not bad at all for someone whose first directing credit was only 15 years ago.

The original "Insomnia" (Danish) was much bettervthan Nolan's English version.

I'd say in terms of quality work, Nolan has put together a pretty impression run.
Spielberg still looks like the gold standard.

Nolan has had a steady run of hits in the past decade.

2008The Dark Knight
2006The Prestige
2005Batman Begins

Kubrick waited a lot of years between projects, but they were mostly influential.

1980The Shining
1971A Clockwork Orange
19682001: A Space Odyssey
1964Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb

It's Just internet fodder but a lot of people have been using the main idea from The Prestige to TDKR.

1. The Pledge-The Magician show's us something, be it a rabbit a dove etc (Batman Begins)
2. The Turn-the magician takes the previous ordinary item or idea and does something extraordinary and turns it on it's head(The Dark Knight)-Think the ending where Bruce/Batman has to go into hiding for Dent's crimes
3. The Prestige- Making something disappear isn't enough, so you have to bring it back, the hardest part-The Prestige: The Dark Knight Rises

Interesting theory. I wonder if this applies to Memento.

I'm looking forward to how Bane is as the villian. The Joker wanted to dangle Gotham City from his puppet strings and turn the city on itself. Bane just seems hell bent on destroying Gotham.

That's what it looks like so far. Pretty bada$$ line in the trailer: "When Gotham is ashes, you have my permission to die."

I've never really gotten what was so marvelous about Inception...

The special effects were great, the idea of the movie was unique and different and the acting was good...Leo gave a top notch performance.

It was a good movie but definitely had its flaws. It just went on WAY too long. The final shootout in the snowy mountains seemed like it was an hour, it got old. That's Nolan's problem in some of his movies...there's no sense of pacing or tightness, it just rambles on

Inception gets so much hype because Christopher Nolan directed it. Dark Knight fans geeks blow it up. It's good, not great.

Granted, I have not watched it again since I saw it in the theater, but I thought it was pretty good. There were some pretty cool and original ideas there and the effects to back it up. The cast was good enough to get across all the exposition of the dream concept without it being tedious. Obviously the biggest thing was it was just so visually impressive.

That being said, I must have a lot more patience for movies than a lot of people do. The thought that a movie is too long rarely occurs to me until I start seeing other people criticize the length.
