I would imagine that Green Bay probably knew about where they were going to be seeded. A 7 really isn't a big surprise, considering their meh SOS ranking. A 30-1 record looks great and impresses the people who vote in the (public opinion) polls, but that has little bearing on the type of schedule that was actually played. Had they played more than seven teams in the RPI top 100 (including Detroit three times with a 98 RPI), they would have received a higher seed.

What worries me isn't the chip on their shoulder from their seed, but the fact that we came from behind to beat them in the final minute in the 2010 NCAA 2nd round in Hilton (on our way to getting clubbed by UCONN in Dayton). They outplayed us, but didn't collect the W. With six players from that squad returning, they will not have short memories of that day.

The committee obviously doesn't think we can get out of the first 2 rounds to the sweet 16. If ISU got to the sweet 16 in DSM it would be sold out, now it likely won't even be close.

i think a reasoning is that since we are a 10 seed the committee doesnt want a higher seed to have to play that low of a seed to go the final four in Iowa States back yard if we happen to get out of the 1st two rounds.

Gino, Pat Summitt, Kim Mulkey would have a fit if that were to happen.

If iowa state would have been a 6 seed or higher you might have seen that. If Iowa State could have pulled out those road wins at texas , texas a&m and kansas they might have been that 6 seed

With a better seed (and season), seems likely that ISU would have gotten into the DSM region. But as it is, I bet we were there in one of the several brackets the committee chair said they debated.

My guess is that in the end it is Kansas being in the tourney that kept ISU out of the DSM region. It's nice that KU made it in after losing Davis, however that added another Big 12 team that couldn't be in ISU's early bracket. If you look at the DSM region bracket, Kansas keeps us from being the 10 seed there. There doesn't appear to be an easy move to fix that, because other regions have better seeded Big 12 teams, and #11 Gonzaga in ISU's Kingston bracket is also hosting.

Also given that Texas was one of the last teams in according to the committee chair and ISU was not, and Texas being a 9 seed, ISU was most likely an 8 or 9 seed to start with. As the committee chair said, they wanted to protect the number 1 seeds from playing on the home court of a host, so ISU was likely moved to a 10. One can only speculate what it might have taken to be a 7 instead, or if it was possibly a consideration (KSU an 8, we swept them, and lost a close one in the tourney).

So the women (could) get Kentucky in Ames and the men (could) get Kentucky in Louisville. Which one has the better shot at the second weekend?

Will be an interesting weekend for my son. He is an ISU grad, works in the UK athletic department, and will be in Ames with the Kentucky women.

Problem is I remember the same :)

Ditto. We were incredibly fortunate to win the last time.

ISU was featured in a Selection Show analysis on how to beat Griner. It's a video at ESPN:

ESPN DALLAS Video: Watch Sports Videos and Highlights Online - ESPN Dallas

See just before the 3 minute mark of the video for ISU vs BU. It nicely shows the strategy ISU used and which was successful in the 1st half. Interestingly, although Lobo describes Pop missing a 3 pointer, saying Griner is willing to give up that shot to her, Pop made one shortly after that.

I watched the frame by frame video of that shot. BG was about 10 ft away when Pop started to shoot, and barely missed blocking it.
