PI vs no-PI is a lot different than unsportsmanlike for rushing the field. In the first, they discussed and said no penalty actually occurred. What you are asking is for them to say, “technically a penalty occurred, but the official only called it because he thought it was meaningless so we’re going to pick it up.” Big, big difference. Those unsportsmanlike penalties get called all of the time i situations like that at the end of a game. This is the first time I’ve ever seen one almost impact the game. But officials call it all of the time. And they can’t just pick a flag like that up.

You're hilarious.

Picking up the X flag, and the gifting Iowa 20 yards were not the calls Capt Kirk wanted to talk about in his post game presser.
He whined about the fumble at the goal line because his coaches upstairs said the ball broke the plane. So in Kirk''s mind, damn the review, his coaches said it was a TD.

Well, if he had responded to me like that I would have pointed out that you were still ahead 7-3......and ISU had to go 99.5 yards to score.

Then see what his reaction would have been.

They were so proud of how their punter pinned opponents inside the 10, and the defense wouldn't let them out.......well, your punter couldn't have pinned ISU any closer to the goal lint than that.

And look what happened.

He can whine all he wants about that call........his so called steel curtain melted when the chips were down.

That's lame. Flags get picked up without penalty when justified. Here, it would hav
They also usually give a warning prior. Where was that, o arrogant God of officiating?
Good question. I’m not agreeing with the call here guys. I’m just giving my guess as to why it was made. I don’t think the flag should’ve been thrown. But I’m just saying that I suspect the official thought it wouldn’t matter and once it was thrown, the officials were stuck in a bad situation.

Geez - sorry guys. I didn’t realize a simple opinion that I really don’t care about would cause such a strong reaction on the board.

I commented as they were lining up that there was gonna he a flag for offside because Anderson was in the neutral zone... I thought it looked pretty obvious but we can't be making those mistakes late in crucial situations

My guess is that the official who threw that flag thought ISU had just won the game too and thought it’d be a meaningless penalty. Probably wouldn’t have thrown it if he knew there was a drive extending flag already thrown. But once the laundry is on the field, you can’t just pick it back up.
You quite literally can, look at ISU's possession prior. IDC if the rules say otherwise, if you can pick up one flag, you should be able to pick up any other.

I'm fine with picking up the Hutchinson flag, was probably the right call. Didn't really see a good view of the offside. But they gotta hold back on the flag for the team on the field or issue a warning, they all thought they just won the game. Have some understanding there.
I thought they got the first two right - I thought MJ was off-sides as the ball was snapped. As soon as I saw the flag I knew the call...

the on the field thing - I get the penalty. The game wasn't over - there would have been time on the clock. So you can't have people on the field. That said, It would have been more prudent to issue a sideline warning than throw a flag and was pissed when that we got flagged for it even if technically it was the correct call

Seemed pretty bad.

Don't really understand picking up the PI flag vs. Hutchinson? Didn't look like we were offsides? Iowa OL holding?

Luckily we won the game anyway, but not sure what was going on there at the end.

We were offsides. The 15 yarder on the sideline was BS.

Another thought: When was the offside flag thrown I didn’t see it until after the play. If it was thrown at the snap I doubt our sideline celebrates early.

Oh yes they can, go back and watch the KSU-ISU game from a few yrs back. Where the refs assisted Snyder in the W.

To me, this was was very similar to Montgomery's "fumble" vs Memphis and Breece's "fumble" vs WVU in that there was no perfect, clear, indisputable evidence.

IMHO, all of the camera angles I saw seem to indicate he fumbled short of the goal line, but I'm not 100% sure on that either.
