Huh? He elbowed him in the face away from the ball. That is the definition itinerary of a flagrant in today's game. Intent is not part of the call any more.
You are correct on that intent has nothing to do with the call. In fact, I agree with the Flagrant 1 call. My only beef was with the non-goaltending call. In real time, it was very obviously GT, and no college referee worth their salt should have missed that call. It was not even close. I don’t think you can compare that to charge/blocking calls as they are very subjective by nature.

There were more than two. Two dreadful charges called on KU in the first half among them.

Refs suck in every sport at every level. I agree that the goaltending call was a big miss. Would have changed what KU had to do down the stretch. The flagrant was the right call. It was the textbook definitely idiot of what a flagrant foul is. I dont like that definition but it was correct according to it.

A missed call with 12 minutes left in the first half rarely if ever mean anything in the scheme of the game. But when it happens like tonight? You are correct......sometimes ref's are bad. But it seems once or twice every year........this kind of thing happens towards the end of close games involving KU that allow the Jayhawks to escape. That is what gets under the skin of most people.

That was a crap call but is only 2nd to one of the worst mistakes ever in this rivalry:

When Wayne Morgan is dropping 4 letter curse words you know it was bad because Wayne barely had a pulse at times with his sideline demeanor.

What I always thought crazy is, the second the KU 3 point shot went in.......they stopped play. They could have easily blown the whistle and stopped play after the missed free throw. Seen it before where the players lost track and started running down the court.

All I hope for is we can look back on this and laugh at the end of the year. Please don’t let this matter.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but they didn’t even call a common foul there. Play was stopped for JCL holding his face in the backcourt as KU was bringing the ball up the floor.
To me that didn't interrupt flow because the team was at a disadvantage and wouldn't "lose" anything by getting it side OOB.

Not exactly sure.

Kalschuer took an elbow to the face Late when the KU player got called for a moving screen, so you believe ISU got hosed there? That is true with what you just said.

I never saw a definitive angle that Grill’s toe was absolutely, positively on the line during his 3 point attempt, but that didn’t stop the officials from declaring it a 2.
What was the original call … I dont think they ever said.

You can tell Homan had a confused look on his face as he hesitated a bit before he got back on defense. In hindsight he should have stayed at the FT line and thrown his arms up that he had a 2nd shot coming and maybe it would have got the attention of the refs before KU hits that 3. Regardless that was another moment when I knew Morgan was a bad coach because the whole team fell for that and went down and played defense like it was a 1 and 1 FT and only after they hit the 3 did they finally realize what had happened. A team that was focused on the situation would not have moved from their spots but they all didn't catch it when it happened and went down the floor. Larry would have been at mid court in a temper tantrum by then and I am pretty sure even Hoiberg, Prohm, and TJ who all are pretty mild mannered on the sidelines would have been in a refs ear pretty quick.

Didn't they initially call it a 2?

I think it was an shoulder but it was intentional … of course no review (insert shock face)

So we got screwed but by gosh how many free throws, missed shots under the hoop and bad turnovers did we have? We literally threw the ball out of bounds 5 times that game with nobody close. Even the elbow foul would have not happen if we didn’t just lose the ball without much pressure. Make one more bunny, one less turnover and you win. Terrible calls but stop putting your self in that position. Happened in football too.

Really missed opportunity and now Texas is a must win imo
Im sure KU is thinking the same thing. We will have bad plays in every game, as will our opponents. We’re going to have close games where it comes down to 1 play. What should not happen, however, is a blatantly obvious missed goaltending call especially at that stage of the game.

You are probably right about other coaches treating it differently. But knowing how things go down in Lawrence they would "T'd" up the ISU coach for throwing a tantrum during the KU's offensive "possession".....and that would have been 2 free throws and the ball for KU.

Pretty sure they showed one angle that it looked like he had a toe on the line. It was a helluva shot regardless and we would not be nitpicking the calls in the game had he missed that shot.

I get what you're saying, but.......
They played well enough to deserve the win.
The O's didn't allow them to win.

Random completely wrong calls late in a game always go KU's way.

no one knows because ESPN can’t afford to send announcers to the stadium anymore.

funny thing is that the announcers were live at woman’s game.
