Maybe it shouldn't amaze me in the era of video games, TV and internet surfing- but why did it take video to create this current uproar. We all knew he punched a girl. I don't think the published description from 2 years ago differed from the recent video.

I have heard that totally absurd comment on national radio, but only by one 'expert' - granted, I don't listen much. But evidently, you and he have no sense for human senses, one of which is sight. Seeing something has quite a different psychological effect on the human brain than reading or hearing about it. Thus, the outrage over the video evidence and mea culpa today by coach Stoops.

Where is the woman now? Is she still a student or was she ever a student at OU? I'm wondering how she feels about all this backlash. Obviously, there wasn't evidence at the time for the state to press charges, but what about a civil case or even a restraining order against Mixon? Those steps would have continued to bring this incident to light and possibly resulted in harsher punishment. Is this a result of OU lawyers/bagmen settling outside the courtroom or did this woman go into hiding and leave the university?

If anyone deserves Monday Morning QB criticism, it should be David Boren. He sat in on the original decision making when the year suspension was handed down. At that moment David Boren said that violent acts committed by his students were OK and that the university would not punish them. I actually think Stoops deserves a slim amount of credit - he sat down with his bosses and came up with a disciplinary action that they signed off on, while also holding true to his commitment of standing by his players. Stoops is in a really tough spot, of his own doing, but he shouldn't shoulder a majority of the criticism he has received this week.

If that happened in Manhattan, Ks the player would have been adios. I'm not sure why you think Stoops should be given credit for anything, 3Gen. In reality, he whiffed by not sending the guy packing, as oSu did with Tyreek Hill. This is yet another sad moment for win-at-all-cost college sports.

Teerk Hill. Let go by oSu after punching his pregnant girl friend in the head and stomach. He's now a big deal in the league.
Different story tho. He was acutally kicked off the OSU football team

I'm surprised Stoops did anything at all. It appears that Stoops deemed the discipline sufficient and his bosses signed off on it. Had this event happened between two regular students I have no doubt that the university would have stepped in and kicked the assailant out of school - there should be some blame placed on David Boren, and not 100% on Stoops.

I'm totally fine with Mixon being punished for this and think he should be, but his punishment should be comparable or less than the person who started the altercation with racial slurs and violence. As I said before, I've gone my entire life without hurling racial slurs and attacking people in public, it's an incredibly easy thing to do and those who somehow can't need to be punished and reformed.
I don't believe that even happened. I think Mixon made that up to justify his anger.

"According to The Oklahoman, Mixon said the racial slur was not said to him, but about him. A police interviewer called that strange, since Smith -- Mixon's teammate, friend and an African-American -- was sitting at the table."
