It's possible he just got burnt out. For those of us who have gotten burnt out before, whether it's a sport or a job you eventually reach a point where you can't do it anymore. Possible this has nothing to do with Rhoads, the staff, or any of his teammates.

Nobody who's ever taken Econ 101 thinks this way.
I don't blame him for cutting his losses at all. Obviously he made a conscious decision to do what is best for him. If that's not playing on a train wreck of a football program, then I don't blame him.

Feel free to believe me or not, but I believe he is more focused on his future career and finding that job than he is with playing football. Can't imagine someone going to school for computer science had plans of going to the NFL (he would have done something much easier than CompSci if that was the case). Game wasn't fun for him anymore, he was more interested in his education and future career, and probably thought at this point he was doing the team a disservice by playing at less than 100% because the game is no longer his focal point.

I wouldn't read into this any further than that. If it (his disinterest) is, in any way, due to coaching problems I would think this is a remnant of the Klenakis era and has nothing to do with Mangino/Blaney.

Hoe you are right

Rumor on one of the pay boards that the players "hate Rhoads" and one of the players that left (I assume Jensen) had to be begged to come back. Said he talks them up in front of the camera but belittles them off camera. Take it for what it's worth.
I find that hard to believe based off everyone I have heard from players on the radio, etc.

This makes perfect sense to me. Just think about how much easier his life is going to be, and how much more fun it's going to be. Good luck to the guy!

Can't really put my finger on it..... but I have this feeling in my gut that you don't like Rhoads
I love Paul Rhoads, see him in Clear Lake a lot, I'm just indifferent at this point but I never want to see the program in the state it is right now. He is to blame right now.

I mean they are 3-11 in their last 14 games. How much can you talk up the players "off camera"?

Yea, I mean it's just a coincidence that a player walks out of practice and quits the team after being beat down by and FCS school that will be 1 of the easiest games on the schedule and after what happened last year.

Maybe he is just sick of losing? All I'm saying is hold up before we start thinking CPR is running players out of town ala McDermott.

I'm not going to speculate on his reasons. I will only add this. As a person who played 5 years of college football I have seen many of people quit for many reasons. Admittedly none of them had the timing of this. However I had the luxury of never playing on a team with a losing record.

My main point is these types of things are very unpredictable.
I've had teammates quit for the following reasons.

Missed deer hunting too much
Landed a killer internship in Washington DC on capital hill
Got a girl knocked up
Missed their girlfriend
Was failing all classes
Wanted to focus on maintaining high GPA
Decided to play basketball at a different school
Wanted to party more
Missed milking cows too much (seriously)

Point is he felt his reason was worth leaving and focusing on the next stage of his life. I am concerned about the direction of things but just wanted to point out that his reasons could also have nothing to do with the program.

This is a huge loss all around. And for those looking forward to seeing Campos you might want to pump the brakes. He's a redshirt freshman. He hasn't faced the kind of people on the other side of the line that he will be expected to face starting Saturday. He dominated CIML kids but Big 12 (and one Big 10) dlineman are different beasts. Looking to the east even some of Iowa's best OLineman had growing pains when pressed into service early.

I read he was first team academic Big 12 and had the high GPA on our team. By now he realizes he's not going to play professionally after this year. I see no fault in him deciding that spending his last bit of college focused on his studies, attaining an internship, etc. is the best use of his time. As Zack Spears said, it's kind of refreshing to see a kid not have football as his only source of identity. You see far too many stories like Max Hall's, where you don't have anything beyond football, and once that's gone all that's left for you is shoplifting from Best Buy and shooting up cocaine.

This is one of the dumbest things ever posted on the internet.
