If you believe it's rational to drop your commitments because of adversity, knowing that you will build a reputation of being untrustworthy, then I don't know what to tell you. I personally don't think that's anywhere close to rational.

Are the guys posting stuff like this even real people? Do you have families?

Are you allowed to vote? Do you vote?

I think the continued struggle to win games and have a successful season may have led Gannon to understand the futility of it all and begin to look out for himself as he nears the end of his college days. I wonder if this loss to an FCS team at home was the final straw.

Perhaps for some players the patience needed has worn out, just like it has for us fans who have quit on this team in droves every year. Maybe Gannon has realized the tream's problems as a whole severely outweigh his contributions individually. He still shouldn't quit. Imagine if a whole host of players did that!

I think we all can agree if this team is winning games Gannon keeps playing. Winning cures.

Do you like that Gannon kid? He seems really sharp and like he'd be a good fit. (silence…no response) What, you don't like the Gannon kid?

It's just that…I didn't want to bring it up this late in the process, but we have reason to believe that he…and we're still trying to get verification…but, we have reason to believe he may have quit the Iowa State Football team during his 5th year.

I knew some people were pretty close to breaking aftr the NDSU loss, but I'm pretty sure the last couple pages here have proven that some have lost their minds.

I'm not sure you understand what "rational" means. It's not the same thing as good, or moral, or right. It means that decisions and actions are guided by reason, facts, and logic...not emotion or value judgments. I don't want to live in a world where everyone exclusively behaves rationally and entirely without emotion, but you simply can't state that "if you start something, finish it" is rational. If it were, it would read more like "finish something if it's worthwhile to do so".

As far as how it's worked out for me? I've quit things both when I should and shouldn't have, and stuck with things under the same circumstances. Some decisions were emotional reactions, and some were made rationally. Some turned out to be good moves, others mistakes. Overall, rationality has served me far better than the alternative...and even when I've turned out to be wrong, I'm infinitely more content with decisions I make that are based on clear, logical thinking rather than doggedly adhering to some belief that quitting is inherently wrong. If that's "part of the problem" to you, so be it.

I understand the word rational. I understand logic and emotion. I understand that it is pointless to continue to present a position to someone who wants to paint it in terms of the absolute (inaccurately, I might add). So, for those that believe roundball is representing MY arguments when he attempts to pick apart my posts, here you go.

These are MY words:
I believe that if you make a commitment, you should honor it.
If you make a promise, you should keep it.
If you start something, you should finish it.

These are descriptions the work ethic that I believe in, that I try to maintain, that I taught my children, that I want to see from people at work, in my family, in my circle of friends, from society in general. Broken promises and commitments not honored are not ways to build & maintain trust and community.

Here's the part of my words roundball keeps ignoring:

SOMETIMES YOU CAN'T.

But that doesn't mean you shouldn't try.

Please don't post this. You have no idea, taking another post from another board is not a good source.
And from what I can tell it is false. Both rivals and scout boards have no comment like this and both are wondering what the hell he is talking about. So my guess is its BS or an off comment on another team board.

Hey quitter, I'm not even talking about job prospects anymore. And for crying out loud, you didn't even read what I wrote yesterday because you've been screaming at a strawman ever since then. But to clue you in, that conversation ended yesterday afternoon and you are now beating a dead horse. Everyone is well aware of your point of view by now. Take a moment, stop hyperventilating, and try to keep up. This is the side conversation that roundball and kcc have had going for a bit about finishing what you start.

You have to finish what you start!!!!!!

I wonder if there's never been an instance of an Iowa State coach, basketball or football, running a player off because he wasn't good enough.

I'm sure it's never happened.

Re: Jacob Gannon has left the ISU program

Campos time. Let's get that future started earlier than expected.

Been a tough crow eating week for me, but I am a optimistic person. Campos will be great. He stood out in the spring game. We will play KSU Tough and have a winning season.

All you people talking about "finish what you starter" and whatever other clichéd blather you are putting out, get real. You're just upset that his life choice might effect your beloved Cyclones. You aren't worried about his future. You aren't worried about his reasoning. You're just upset that he left your beloved Cyclones vulnerable.

I find it comical that some of our most revered names in Iowa State history like Marcus Fizer and Jamaal Tinsley didn't even graduate, to the best of my knowledge. We upset with them because they "quit" school?

This is true, and so what?
