Lots of people will want to read these articles and probably read them all. Is it the Registers fault that this is what lots of people want to read right now?

No, it's not the register's fault. It's the register's fault that they don't actually have any journalists anymore that can write anything other than softball stories, and it's the register's fault that it's turned into nothing more than a pop-culture creampuff of a publication.
It's why I don't read it, and won't read it. I am still a bit irritated that I have to pay them 1.50 to deliver advertisements on Sundays. I wish they could just deliver those without the crap they call a newspaper wrapped around them.
USA was ranked #4 in the world and beat the #2 in the world Italy.
However, next game I think we play #1 team in the world in Cuba. They got Bronze in Athens and got gold the 3 olympics before that.

I am really, really happy for Shawn. She had some terrible luck on the floor exercise having to go first, otherwise she may have gotten the gold there. And she had to overcome the fact that the judges didn't like her style of gymnastics. But she ended up with 1 gold and 3 silvers (and I think she would have medaled in the vault if she would have elected to go for it)
It is a nice story since she is probably the only elite gymnist that doesn't train 8 plus hours per day or isn't shipped off to a gym away from their family, etc. She happened to walk into a gym that had a coach that was capable of coaching an elite athlete.
She was faced with disappointment (over a silver.....if only that was my most disappointing moment!) and managed to act gracious and smile. Sheer exhaustion would probably make most of us break down in tears after coming so close to the ultimate dream, but she was able to keep it together and I think she really was happy for her teammate.
Her run in the Olympics has made a boring summer sports season that much more interesting.
As far as 2012.....I would guess that she'll try to come back for it. There were at least 2 20-year olds on the US team. One even competed on the vault. I would doubt that Shawn would be an all-around contender again, but she could probably focus on the vault and floor.

To those questioning the DM Rag haters or the people simply tired of Shawn Johnson news - there are two main reasons for this...
DM Register - News isn't really news anymore and that is why the DM Register sucks. The Iowa City scandal wasn't being reported while fluff pieces about just about any other topic were headlines. That is the type of thing that gets under people's skin and when something like Shawn Johnson has multiple sections upon sections dedicated to one Olympian out of the 9 from Iowa - its very tiring when put into perspective of the other "news" in the world. Its a great story and something to report about, but not dedicate countless sections for several months.
Shawn Johnson - I think the only problem I have is that people place the Olympics on some pedestal whereas all of a sudden if you win it you're going to bring instant fortune to the area you're from. I agree Shawn has handled herself incredibly well and we should all be proud of her. BUT, do you really think somebody in Atlanta, Iran, Russia, Texas or anywhere else is sitting there saying, oh she's from West Des Moines, I better move my family there right now. This one Olympian is from there so it must be the best place on earth where I want to spend all of my time and money.
To say we should be proud of having one of our own there is perfectly fine, to say we need to dedicate everything in the state to her is just naive. Do you really think WDM benefits from the publicity other than for the split second somebody hears WDM? I guess I have yet to see any place on earth where they've had long-term positive impact from any Olympian.
