McDermott knows Gatens' potential.

"I've always been a Matt Gatens fans," McDermott said of the Iowa City High product. "He seems to have made himself a better 3-point shooter than he was in high school. He's a big reason they've had the success they've had at this point."

I don't like our coach Compliminting the Hawks or their players

Why? What is he going to say...He sucks?

No kidding. Truth is that coaches aren't as partial about rivalries as the fans are. You also see coaches of rival teams friends with each other.

Being a head coach in the state for several years, I'm sure Mac saw him play before and even tried to make a recruiting pitch. As a coach, you look at players for their talent and personality, and not which team's uniform they have on.

I think coach would lose a lot of credibility in the state if he threw Iowa High School kids under the bus in interviews....

Not sure what you mean, Bryce. Attendance under Mac's 1st 2 years is higher than Wayne's last 2.

The first two years were better, but so far this year I'd say we're about where we were at under Wayne in my opinion, and I also think Jamie is using some curious accounting practices in the ticket count. I'm sorry but we're not averaging like 13k a game this year.

Yeah, whatever. Obviously it wasn't Alford's fault after all.

What about all of those dedicated Hawk fans who said they would buy season tickets again as soon as Alford was fired? What happened to them? :skeptical:

You don't think fan apathy has had a part to play with the small crowds the last few years? Maybe the last coach had something to do with that apathy?

I guess I'm just extremely surprised 13k people are even buying tickets considering I doubt half that have been in the building for a game this year.
