Hey guys, take the blinders off, Mahoney was offsides, his plant foot was way out ahead of the ball before he kicked it.

I'm a huge Cyclone fan but the TV showed him being offsides.

Except for that part in the rule book that says the kicker can't be offsides...

Offside occurs when players of the kicking team are not behind their
restraining line when the ball is legally free-kicked (Exception: The kicker
and holder are not offside when they are beyond their restraining line) (Rule
6-1-2).

Do you know the rules? The kicker can't be offsides.

Offside
ARTICLE 2. After the ball is ready for play, offside occurs (Rule 7-1-5) when

the ball is snapped (A.R. 7-1-3-V Note);
e. Crosses the neutral zone and charges toward a Team A back (A.R. 7-1-
5-III); or
f. Is not behind his restraining line when the ball is legally free-kicked.
Offside occurs when one or more players of the kicking team are not behind
their restraining line when the ball is legally free-kicked (Exception: The kicker
and holder are not offside when they are beyond their restraining line) (Rule
6-1-2).

You aren't looking at the right rule. It's Rule 6 (Kicks), letter A. The kicker CANNOT be offsides. It is impossible. The announcers WERE IDIOTS. The call WAS TERRIBLE.

(Apologies for the caps, but, what the hell)

The announcers VERY rarely will say anything negative about the refs and will always try to reason the viewers on the official making the right call, even if they know the official made a horrible one. The officials blew it, we needed that to go our way and the refs decided to interject themselves in the game for no reason and stop a legal play. As Cyclone fans, we should be used to this.

Before ripping on people, please make sure you know the rules.
Like other have already posted, the kicker cannot be offsides.

Why is this a rule? Because it would basically be biomechanically impossible to gain any type of leverage on the kick without having the plant leg "even with or infront of" the object its kicking.
Have you tried kicking something with your plant foot behind the object? It's freakin hard and you don't get much power. That is why it's LEGAL for the kicker to step in front of the line.
