Wow, so the police sit outside the liquor store, then follow people who buy alcohol home and see what they do with it? What a waste, not to mention following people for no other reason than they were at a liquor store on a weekend night seems like harassment.
I had a buddy once who helped carry a six pack for his friend to his car. The cop gave him a ticket in Hy-Vee parking lot for minor in possession. I remember thinking that was crazy too.
I think I can honestly say that I wouldn't entertain any sort of suspension for this, and probably wouldn't even have them run an extra sprint in practice. I think I would shrug this off.
Did no one read the part that said "if convicted could spend up to a year in jail with an $1857 fine." He very easily could be suspended or kicked off the team. Unlikely but still possible.
