Does CFH's contract include bonuses/perks for Big 12/NCAA tourney appearances/wins? I know this is common for football but haven't heard anything about a basketball equivalent.

This is the primary reason why I've been opposed to "Orr Floor" - ever since I bought into Fred being the coach at his intro press conference, I knew his legend was going to surpass Orr's, and with that, the court rightfully belongs to Hoiberg. I love all the stuff ISU has done for Orr's memory - the statue, "Johnny's" and everything else, but Fred Hoiberg is ISU basketball.
NO. That honor belongs to Johnny when it happens. Even Fred would tell you that.
Agree with this. And remember that Fred does get bonuses like winning Conference Tournament and Sweet Sixteen, etc.

Ok, let's base it on what Scott Drew has done at Baylor. That's a more likely comparison.
I'm glad you aren't our AD. You probably wanted a lifetime contract and top in the Big 12 for Rhoads after his first couple of years too.
What would you have given Scott Drew? $5 mil per year for 10 years? Like it or not, he has done a much better job at Baylor so far than Fred has at Iowa State.
I love Hoiberg but let's not get carried away because we made it to one sweet 16.
Good points. Fred is also friends with Tim Floyd. Tim Floyd can tell Fred how the NBA works out for many coaches. And it didn't work out so great for Rick Pitino. How many great NBA coaches can anyone name that have had long, long careers in the NBA?
If you want to be a big time program you have to pay your Coaches. Pay Fred, it is a no brainer. I would imagine that Jamie is already working on it.

What ISU does give is guaranteed money. We won't be firing him in the next 10 years. So that's 20+ million guaranteed.
In the NBA you get a shorter contract, less power, and you are extremely disposable.
That's what ISU has as an advantage.
I am sure Jamie will sit down and talk to Fred about his wants - what can we do help you continue to build ISU? If Fred wants more money, I am sure Jamie will make that happen. If it is money for assistants, I am equally sure Jamie will make that happen.
At this point, the two worst things for Jamie are that (1) Fred leaves and (2) it doesn't appear that Jamie did all he could to keep him. Fred is bargaining from a position of power. I think it's obvious they gave Johnny his own place in hilton and a statue instead of that.
Fred would say that because he's all class, and probably even believes it. But Fred Hoiberg is going to surpass Johnny Orr as the face of ISU basketball. He probably already has. He's accomplished as much as Orr has in a shorter amount of time, and in the next few days has the chance to do more, perhaps take us to places we haven't been since the 1940s, perhaps ever. Fred Hoiberg is the rightful owner of the court's name.
One other point - if they were going to name the court after Orr, they would have done it while he was still alive so they could honor him in the process. They're not going to do it post-humanously. In other words, if they were going to name the court after Johnny, they would have done it by now. And in fact, I think JP has already said that the court WILL NOT be named after Orr, which leads me to believe it's already reserved for Hoiberg.

In four years? I realize that Baylor was in a worse place than ISU (as hard as that is to imagine) was when they each took over, but compare Fred's first 4 years to this:
8-21, 3-13, 11th
9-19, 1-15, 12th
4-13, 4-12, 12th (NCAA sanctions, no non-conference play)
15-16, 4-12, 11th

Even though Baylor was worse to start with, I don't think you can say that even Drew's first 6 years were head and shoulders above what Fred has done in his first 4.
There is no way Fred should be the 9th highest paid coach in the league. I realize that information is dated and doesn't include Tubby Smith. Had no idea he was that low. Self, Barnes, Drew, and Huggins probably deserve more. But Weber? Johnson at TCU?
