Buzz for next year's Oscars is already around this one...The Light Between Oceans. Haven't read the book but it was on the best-seller list forever. Everyone I've talked to that read it loved it. Looks great and love all three actors in it. Vikander could be getting an Oscar two years in a row...

Movies with early Oscar buzz always seem to fizzle in the end.

It was funny if you knew what it was referencing. I think most people just weren't aware of the comments she made. I know I wasn't.

I had no freaking clue what she was talking about. So it was just weird.

Statements = Oscars = GREAT movies... hahaha

Right, because powerful films don't make statements. They just blow **** up and rack up body counts.

Spotlight was a great film. Just because it wasn't full of eye candy and you missed the point of the film doesn't mean it wasn't the best picture of the year.

I hate it when movies make me think. I want explosions and boobs and maybe talking robots. If you can't give me that, then GTFO.

Everybody has their own tastes, none of them are wrong. I have a brother-in-law who thinks that anything without explosions and car chases is an "art flick". Whatever. To each his/her own.

I like Spotlight for what it is, but can still strongly dislike phony, pretentious, ignorant actors. Ya dig? Everybody wants to be Woodward and Bernstien.....sure, I love it too. Just speak Truth to Power....not Partisan popularity contests. You want to impress me......be an investigative reporter exposing Vince Foster's assasination.

Was wondering what Roman Polanski's victim thought of the whole spectacle last night since the Academy gave her abuser a standing ovation in his absence ironically in the same year as was depicted in Spotlight.

I prefer giant fire breathing T-Rex robots...

That's fine. If someone wants to say they find Spotlight boring because they don't give a **** about journalism and what makes a good journalist, that's one thing. But calling it boring because you already knew all about the scandal and the film didn't "reveal" anything, is an example of missing the point of the film.

Yeah, if they find it boring and don't get it, they find it boring and don't get it. You obviously know more about journalism than he does, but I'm not going to tell a guy he's wrong for being bored by something I'm interested in. I know a good bit about journalism and loved Spotlight. A lot of that is because journalism in today's world has turned into such a sleeze slathered bile factory anything that offers a glimpse into the fraction of "journalists" who do it right is refreshing.

Like I said, I think he's just getting hung up on the wrong thing when making his judgement. He might find it boring either way, but knowing the outcome of the subject matter isn't really a sound critique, IMO. We know how United 93 ends going in, but that didn't take away from the film. It's a film closely based on a real-life event. If you're expecting to learn a lot of historical facts from a film like that, you're doing it wrong.

I've known two people in my life that didn't like The Simpsons, Seinfeld, or Will Ferrell. 1/3 (probably Ferrell as I can see how his schtick just doesn't work), or maybe 2/3, and 'to each their own' fits. 3/3 just means something's very wrong and our conversation's probably going to be very short.

Really bad movies can still be great. I saw Happy Gilmore last week and forgot about how it's one of Adam Sandler's best movies despite being just awful.

I saw all but one of the Best Picture nominees (didn't see Brooklyn) and while I thought Spotlight was good, it wasn't deserving of the win IMO. But I am not surprised at all that journalists are raving over the movie, celebrating the bygone era of investigative print journalism that they will never see as long as they shall live.

I would have had the nominees:

1. The Big Short
2. The Martian
3. Mad Max: Fury Road
4. Bridge of Spies
5. Room
6. Spotlight
7. The Revenant

I only saw four of them. My list goes:

1. Mad Max
2. Bridge of Spies
3. The Martian

(Although not up for Oscars but still better than Spotlight): Fantastic Four and Fifty shades of Grey

Last: Spotlight
