IMO Butler was only shut down because he was struggling with his legs. He did his job as number 1 WR — he forced them out of what they wanted to do. Zeb didn’t just have a good game — he had a great game. He didn’t make any questionable throws until it was time to start forcing it.
Yeah, he looked to be limping after that deep shot to the endzone.

I like that Zeb has the confidence to throw down field. He has a cannon. His accuracy was a lot better today than in the past.

Agree. I was worried about his hamstring (or something) on that sideline catch, and then he got his foot kicked on the last stride as he was reaching for the throw in the end zone. Hopefully it was cramping.

Well crap. We didn’t play our best game and still had a chance. Defense was just atrocious today. Missed tackles and bad pass defense was our demise. Offense played good, and Hakeem is a beast. Please no more wildcat. If we’re going to try something new why not put in Re-Al and go with 2 qbs or something?

That might have had something to do with who we were playing (on most occasions - not all). Kyler Murray is just a freak of nature.

Oklahoma is good. Real good.
Cyclones played well enough to beat pretty much anybody else today.
Some head scratcher personnel decisions at times (Croney in on 3rd-1 instead of Montgomery)
Noland's ceiling is very high
O-line improved a lot, still plenty of work to do.
Would have liked to see more chances taken on defense, but that is one sharp double-edged sword with Murray.

BOLD PREDICTION: Cyclones will start 1-3, and then win 6 or 7 of the final 8.

PS: Kyler Murray cried to the refs every time he got hit. He'll make a good baseball player.

Defense tightened up in the 2nd half. OU had 350 yards in the first half. Finished with just over 500. Sloppy tackling was the biggest negative. We have some horses on that side of the ball.

I’m a little worried about losing a game or two due to bad special teams. They’re pretty sketchy, and probably the way we’ll lose to KSU this year. The good news is that going for it because we can’t kick deep field goals may actually be a positive when you do the probabilities .

We got a team to be proud of again. Some real dudes on this squad.

I agree, but did we put a spy on Murray at all today? It seemed like every time he scrambled it was a 5 yard gain at least

It think we did and he just outran the angles they had on him. He was running laterally a lot, which I think is a sign we had at least one guy in the middle with their eyes on him. Just too freaking fast.

Honestly I felt like he was throwing behind receivers a lot, leaving yards on the field. But he will get there.

Defense was poor. I understand OU's offense is great but that was a subpar performance. But, they buckled down and performed well in the 4th quarter. Unfortinately the offense wasn't able to capitalize. There was a couple of possession stretch where OU didn't get any points but ISU was only able to come away with 3. That was the pivotal point in the game.

Oline was no good (no holes to rush through, RBs have to do all the work). Zeb was excellent. He should be starter from here on out.

Some of the play calling was questionable. That wildcat package was awful. Not running Montgomery on 3rd and 1 was a head scratcher.

Offense is going to have to come through in the 4th quarter this year if a bowl game is in the future.

2 key plays in the game that could have turned the tide in our favor. A) 1st half, 10-10 & force a 3rd and 6 (or something like that) - we have their runner in deep doo doo 3 yards behind the line and fail to make the tackle. 1st down ensues and a TD. Force them to punt & that could have changed the entire complexion of the first half.
B) Then, offensively, if Noland leads Akers it's a TD instead of a FG. The last series could then have been one to try and win it.
That said, I was impressed with Noland.

Hard to know what Assalley's range is on FGs but like you say, I don't think it's the worst idea to go for it instead of kick/punt in the fringe area between 30 and 40 yard line.

Also, Assalley is 3 for 3 on FGs and 3 for 3 on PATs. Small sample size, but I'll take those percentages.

Punting is another matter ...

... What was everyone's opinion of doing the short kickoffs to force fair catches? Was there a wind situation I didn't understand (Francis seems capable of getting touchbacks).
