I was looking mainly to sculpt with it. I certainly don't care about losing weight, I'm underweight as it is, but mainly looking for a fitness program and something that'd help with my abs.

... im staring at the day 3 dvd... i can barely move... it hurts to lay down and hurts even more to get back up!!! please tell me this is halfway normal. Ive expereinced sore... and this is no where close to what ive ever been before

This is where I was after the first two days - it hurt to lay down and just sit in a chair. Week 2 is better and by Week 3 you are fine and starting to see results. That first week is the toughest by far and each week just gets a little easier as you go. Really do the warm ups and warm downs and stretch. Stick with it!

Cheers

I'm looking into this now to change up the routine, and it sounds like I'm pretty much in the same boat as you, not looking to lose weight at all. Do you feel like the results are worth it if you're already in decent shape?

Ha, well like I said, I dropped it a month in. I'm one of those people that can't gain a pound despite not exercising and eating and drinking as much as I want.

I felt like it was starting to benefit me, but my life was really hectic at the same time.

If nothing else, like I said, the ab workout looked like a good one. I think if you were to just combine that, Plyo and Yoga it'd be a really good supplement.

Insanity is more intense than p90x, but the workouts are not as long. And it's just you and the floor. It's 6 days a week. I usually get 4 in, plus some basketball and a couple days lifting at the gym.

I just started this program yesterday and it is awesome. I can fully understand why those that stick to this sucker for a full 90 days come out ripped. I did the polymetrics today and lost a pound. I weighed myself at every break and I lost .2 lbs each time.

When you are doing P90x or Insanity make sure you have taken in plenty of calories before hand. I did Insanity Plyo Circuit yesterday after not eating much the day before and no breakfast. I crashed pretty hard and didn't make it through the workout.

Here is my experience, but it probably mainly applies to someone that starts in my position.

I weighed 230 lbs about 18 months ago, and was approaching 40. I looked at P90X and realized there was no way I could even start that type of workout. So I hit the treadmill for 6 days per week, 30 minutes per day for 6 months and dropped 30 lbs. No special diet, but did practice portion control.

I still didn't think I was up to P90X, so I got the old P90 routine that he first came out with. I liked doing it since it broke up the boredom of treadmill everyday, plus integrated some weights. Most of the workouts were < 45 minutes. After the 90 days, I think I lost about another 15 lbs.

Then, I bought P90X. Hung with it for about 3 weeks, but gave up. Even though I was down to about 185 lbs, the pull up workouts and ab workouts were practically impossible (for me), and the yoga workout also. Plus, the whole convenience thing was getting blown up with 50 minute+ workouts.

My overall conclusion is that P90X is pretty frickin hard core, too hard core for an old guy like me.

I am back on the treadmill and do the P90X cardio workout a couple days a week for change of pace. Down to 172 and feel good, but could probably use some weight work.

I hear good things about Insanity, that it does not require all the crazy pull up junk, so think I will check that out this summer.

I can't really say much for the P90X workout, as I have never done it before.
I do have some advice for the recovery drink, and the chocolate milk is a good one. However, if you are looking to lose weight, I would go with skim milk. Most bodybuilders and powerlifters will drink chocolate milk post workout, becuase it is packed with carbs and protein for putting on muscle mass and is relatively cheap compared to actual "post workout" drinks.
However, if you are looking for a true quick workout drink, you should go with a whey protein source, which is NOT dairy. Whey protein is fast acting and will feed your muscles when they most need it. Milk/dairy products, which is composed mostly of casein protein, is what you want to take before bed. It is slower acting and will absorb into your system throughout the night, rather than all at once quickly.

You are going to have to choose either non-dairy or whey because whey is most definitely a milk byproduct and therefore is dairy. It is one of the byproducts from cheese production.

"No Whey!"

Whey! Look it up.

I was 240 at the start of P90x, we're in the rest week of Phase 2 and I weighed in today at 210, and feel a lot stronger. I love it.

i did the ab ripper x and afterwards I only cried for 45 minutes! I am truly a man.

My serious advice to you is to set goals. Then you will be less likely to quit doing it.

I've done it twice now, and my advice would be to not kill yourself the first 20 minutes into the dvd's. Pace yourself, like he tells you too. You are going be to moving at such a fast rate between excercises, that you will burn out within 30 minutes. If you can normally do 25 pushups, do 15-20. If you can do 10 pull ups, do 6. Really try to turn it on the second half of the workout.

Also, take your protein shake or chocolate milk during your workout. The protein and nutrients are going to get to your blood stream quicker and more efficiently.

Lasty, don't skip the cardio stuff. You see how important that stuff is during your lifting days.

Just my two cents.

Yeah, my first time doing it I tried to keep up with Tony's assistants, I thought I had my old early college years body back. Then we started the second half of the workout and I threw up everywhere. Not good. Once I started pacing myself, the workouts were much more manageable

well since ive seen this thread got revived ill let everyone know i am now in week 2 and doing great with it. today was my once every 2 weeks "cheat day" for my diet but besides that ive basically made a total lifestyle change with my eating. I am treating this week as week one because the second part of last week i was sore i didnt feel i got much out of the workouts but this week i feel great after each workout (meaning not sore, because i definitely just laid on the ground for a solid 15 min after plyo from exhaustion haha) I already feel like i have little more energy and just overall am feeling great. Im really excited to get to the 90th day and see my final results

I was going to create my very own P90X thread, but I knew there was already plenty of them out there and just decided to go thread necromancer on this particular one. Anyway, tonight will be my first attempt at this. I was going to ask for advice, but after reading several of the existing threads and hearing it echo what one of my brothers-in-law says about it, I've heard a lot of good advice already, although I'm always up for more.

I'm a veteran of the P90 series, and have done that workout program on and off for the last 3 years. Unfortunately, I just don't get anything out of it anymore, I plateau on it way too quickly, and get bored with it too easily. And although I am very overweight, with the exception of the pull-ups (I'll be using the bands, as I've never been able to do a pull-up my entire life), I pass the fitness test with flying colors, thanks to my experience with P90. So it's one of those things where I figure "might as well".

I figure one thing that's going to help me out a lot is my other brother-in-law just ordered his own set yesterday, so in a week or so I'm going to have someone who will be able to encourage me, challenge me, and hold me accountable, which from what I hear is absolutely key for phase 1.

Okay, let the advice and luck-wishing begin...

Nice. I am starting my Third Cycle on November 1st after an 8-week break of light weight work and cycling. Looking foward to Kenpo and Yoga again.

The program is challenging, no doubt about it.

Drink plenty of fluid and pace yourself. Those first couple of weeks are pretty tough, but you will get it going. Stay positive and do what you can early.

Lots of good advice earlier in the thread, so just stick with it at whatever level.

Cheers

I am starting week 4 of p90x today. I've only done each workout three times, but its pretty amazing how much better I was the third time through each routine than I was the first time. I think the workouts flow together well. By the time something isn't sore anymore its time to hit that area again.

The best advice I can give is find someone to do the program with you. My wife and I started together, and while she is on a whole different fitness scale than me, the program is very adaptable. Having someone else there to motivate you is huge.

And from experience, I was destroyed for 4 days because I tried too hard on day 1. Just keep in mind that you are fat and old and are not supposed to keep up with the instructors!
