Just decided to start the Paleo diet. Not to lose weight as I'm a bean pole, but mainly because my digestive system has been a disaster for 20+ years. Curious what others have found out by doing it, and also: what the hell do you eat as a snack?

I'm keto so many similarities... I found after having a consistent diet - in addition to all the blood stuff - my body just worked better with way fewer "surprises". Less gas, less bloating, better poops, better sleep, energy, etc... Basically I knew what my body was going to do before it did it.

I'm on Keto and I usually have almonds or a pickle. Beef jerky or beef stick are good as well. Cheese cubes are also a favorite.

Beef jerky

Jerky usually has soy and some form of added sugars, so isn't considered paleo. Biltong is paleo and is similar to jerky, though I'd say tastes even better.

I'm paleo as well as I'm training for the Crossfit Games. I snack on RX bars, Nutzo nut butter + fruit & hemp/sesame seeds, and primal kitchen protein bars. Let me know if you need any help or have any questions.

I do paleo, probably not full on paleo because I snack on jerky and I do lots of sweet potatoes and I think there's some issues on whether that's paleo. Lots and lots of eggs and other proteins, onions, peppers, eggs, almonds, eggs, eggs. Biggest adjustment for me when I started was the time it takes for meal prep. You can't just throw a sandwich together or a bag of chips. Lots of peeling and chopping and slicing.

Sweet Potatoes are definitely paleo.

There's some great meal services that can provide all your meals pre-made. I've used Pete's Paleo and loved it, though it's definitely costly.

Plantain chips w/ salsa. But watch out - they're addicting.

If it's something you're going to do long term, I'd recommend a membership to Thrive Market (online). It's $60/year, but will save you a lot of money compared to buying paleo snacks and other foods at the store.

Was on Keto starting last October 1. Lost almost 60 lbs. Moved from obese to just overweight. Modifying to more Paleo now. No pills. No shakes. No gimmicks.

Go to snacks for me were beef sticks, cheese, summer sausage, beef stick ends and pieces, etc. Cauliflower, Broccoli, with full fat ranch dip. Celery, which I hate. Basically anything high protein or high fat. Low Carb. Low Sugar.

Snack when hungry. Keto for me was not a diet. It was a change in eating habits. No chips. No processed foods. Healthy.

Ummm...you realize summer sausage and beef sticks are processed food right?

I've been lactose intolerant since I hit puberty years ago, but since I was 19 I noticed some severe brain fog. Cognitively it was really having an effect which killed me since I was always a high achiever (valedictorian, scholarships, blah blah blah humble brag). It all went away since I stopped eating grains completely. I still have fatigue but I can work at a high level with fatigue (not possible with brain fog). If you go the grain free route you need to find carbs in other forms. Sweet potatoes are your friend. Its completely changed my life.

So who was valedictorian in your graduating class?

I watch labels closely. No added sugars or fillers. Those are the villain. Buy quality products that are basically protein and spices.

I eat anything low or no carb. Low or no sugar. Works for me. Lost 30 pounds by mid January.

Depends on what you do but I don't find it to be much work to throw in 1/2 bag of veggies in one pan and a salmon fillet in the other medium heat for 10 minutes total.

I'm a bit of a creature of habit though so can do without much variety and complex menus so maybe that's what makes it easier.

Need to get back to a stricter Paleoesque direction. I know personally it really does make me feel better.

Football season is maybe the most anti-Paleo for me though.

Can you guys have alcohol on these diets?

When I first started Keto, I abstained from alcohol for a few weeks and got things going. Low Carb beer like Ultra or Busch Light are pretty good. Whiskey, Capn Morgan, Vodka are all low carb. Mix with Diet Pop or water. No problem. Alcohol slows your metabolism according to what I have read. But just watch the carbs and sugars. I am a beer drinker mostly when I drink. Busch Light (3.2 g. carbs) is a great cheaper beer. Bud Light has about twice as many carbs. Basically count carbs and avoid sugars.

I've never tried it. My most successful weight loss has been when I lower my caloric intake. Even when I was younger and running 15-20 miles per week, I didn't lose weight because I just ate more.
