Saw this on Twitter. Odd timing. If I remember right, Sara Ganim was the one who broke the story.

. @DVNJr reporting Sue #Paterno devastated about statue. It was taken down exactly 6 mo after her husband died.

While the Paterno family may be grief stricken, and the loss a a family member never easy, their actions in this mess are less than admirable. THey would be better served taking the huge buy out contract Paterno negotiated without BOR approval/awareness that they are hiring lawyers to "review" the Freeh report, and "clear" JoePa's name, and donating it to Prevent Child Abuse America, and just be done with it.

Yeah, the Paterno family needs to come to terms with the fact that they've lost the ability to control the narrative on this situation, and start dealing with the reality of it, whether they agree with it or not. It's the same thing that happened when this all first came out and Joe stated he would retire at the end of the season, as some sort of appeasement. Sorry, Joe. You lost the ability to dictate the minute this went public.

I'll stand by the opinion that if you believe the NCAA has to punish Penn State in order for justice to truly be done in this situation, then your priorities are as mixed up as the JoePa homers who don't see how he did anything wrong.

I agree, nothing at all could possibly be done to either the perps, or the football program that could atone for what happened to the kids.

That said, that doesn't mean you should do nothing. Ultimately this can be seen as a "protect the program at all costs" deterrent.

The big question is if the punishments are worse than the death penalty, what do we call it?
Suicide penalty. Had the higher ups at Penn State not turned their backs to the situation, had they turned Sandusky in, in 1998 or 2001 or whenever, the way this all goes down is completely different.

the line to get pics with the statue before it goes (assuming it does)

pretty sad and tasteless imo

The way I see it, Joe Paterno the football coach and Joe Paterno the man are two different people now. The statue represents Paterno the coach. A statue isn't erected in front of a football stadium for what he did (positively) off the field, but for what he did on the field with all of the wins and such. If fans want to protect/defend the legacy of Paterno the football coach by protecting the statue or getting a picture with it before it is/was taken down, that is completely fine in my eyes. People trying to protect Paterno the man are the sick ones.
