Not out of the realm of possibility.

I feel a lot better going into this season than last. Our interior D-line was decimated by defections, injuries, & dismissals. Inexperience and lack of strength & size are a formula for disaster and that's exactly what happened. You have to be at least be serviceable on the interior or the defense has no chance.

On paper the defensive line finally has depth, size, and a couple of potential play makers in Tucker & Pierson.

If Jordan Harris is able to play at full speed, we may actually have an upgrade at linebacker.

Find some wins in the first half of the schedule and you never know: someone on the back half could have a starting quarterback go down or a coach fired mid-season.

As I've stated before- Rhoads gets five wins and he stays. Four might do it if he can find another major upset.

I'll take it. Realistically I think we fall short, but I think we have a chance at a 6 win season. Would be nice after the last 2 and the basketball offseason.

Phil Steele always downgrades ISU. I am very surprised that he of all analysts picks us to have a comeback this year.

We have a lot of returners on the Offensive side of the ball. And the addition of Demond Tucker helps a bunch. Along with many others for this coming year. We were close in several ball games. It should be an interesting year.

First:
"...Paul Rhoads always overchieves and beats his predictions, as he has not called for the Cyclones to get to a bowl game in Rhoads’ tenure..."

This is not true. CPR's first year here he told the players "we will go to a bowl this year" and we did. He set a goal for his guys that was measurable, achievable, with a definitive time frame.

"His predictions" means Steele's predictions, not Rhoads'. Steele is saying that Rhoads always does better than he (Steele) thinks.

I'm pretty sure last season was the only time this wasn't true. Steele has no opinion or emotion in his picks, its all based on different formulas based on past results. Consistent QB play (which is a trickle down of lots of other factors) and better dline play are the keys.

Can't blame people for being down on program. But baring major injuries this team is going to surprise a lot of folks

^ But when have we ever been able to avoid major injuries? We haven't the last few years and it is that lack of depth that does is in every year.

Aren't we a bit naive to predict anything without accounting for major injuries and what that will mean?

I think you have to rephrase and say "baring an inability to plug holes as inevitable injuries occur throughout the year..."

Last couple of years we have had more injuries than normal and hitting certain position groups especially hard.

This is what I am thinking. There are going to be a lot more bodies on the OL and DL this year, unless another train wreck string of injuries occur. The program is not great, but only elite programs can have as many injuries as ISU had last year and still be competitive. Hopefully there will not be the major let down when something bad happens this year.

He also tracks turnovers and predicts howany takeaways we will have this season. He also keeps stats on his performance so he is very interested in getting his picks right. This is the only pre season mag i buy.

Sept. 5: UNI
Sept. 12: Iowa
Sept. 19: @ Toledo
Oct. 3: Kansas
Oct. 10: @ Texas Tech
Oct. 17: TCU
Oct. 24: @ Baylor
Oct. 31: Texas
Oct. 7: @ Oklahoma
Nov. 14: Oklahoma State
Nov. 21: @ K-State
Nov. 28: @ West Virginia

I think ISU has a very real chance of against UNI, Iowa, Toledo, Texas Tech and Kansas.

I think we could possibly beat K-State, West Virginia, Texas and Oklahoma State. I just know that if we lose to K-State for an 8th straight year, especially if we lose by one possession again, I'll lose it. Same goes with losing to Texas after a nail-biter the last 2.

We will lose to Baylor, TCU, and Oklahoma.

At an absolute best, with everything going our way and beating all the teams I think we have a chance at, as high as 9-3 theoretically. Realistically, I'm expecting somewhere between 4-6 wins though.
