That sounds good. I called CL and their fastest speed in my town in 1.5 mbps. Thay seems pretty slow for steaming. What is yours?

Yeah, that won't do at all. I'm worried about making the switch with 40 Mbps from CL. So, that's probably what you're missing from your earlier question.

Bump. Having baby #2 and need to trim some of the fat.

Can I use Vue on a Chromecast?
Do I need a Chromcast at each TV to watch Vue?
I know Cyclones basketball is on ESPN channels, but does Vue have the channels that football is on?

Yes, you can use a chromecast. I don't like it as well as a Fire TV or stick since you need another device to actually run the app then cast to the chromecast. Also, oddly enough, Vue does not work on Chromebooks.
Yes, you need some kind of device on each TV. I have a Fire TV on my main TV, Fire sticks on two others, PS4 on another. I don't notice that much difference between the fire sticks and the fire tv.
I think I had to up my package for a month during football to get one of the channels we were on but you can get them.

As for internet in Marshalltown, Centurylink is pretty crappy from what I've heard and they don't offer speeds high enough to handle streaming (which is why they don't need data caps probably). You might be able to get away with the 60Mb/400GB Mediacom package but I work from home(and have two kids that are constantly streaming youtube) and go through a lot of data and was going over on 100Mb/1TB so had to up to the 200Mb/2TB. But that's only $125( $90 + $35 for Vue) compared to the ~$180 I was paying for Mediacom TV or the over $200 I was paying for DirectTV + Mediacom internet before that.

How are you all saving so much money? Someone please show me how my number are wrong.

Currect Directv - 114.27
Current internet (150 GB) - 43.02
Total monthly cost = 157.29

PS Vue - 42.00 (assuming 20% taxes and fees)
new internet (1,000 GB) - 97.56
Total new monthly cost = 139.56

So, a savings of $18. what am i missing?

There are no taxes or fees with Vue. $34.99 is what I pay. And I have 200Mb/2TB Mediacom for $89.99 with taxes/fees.

Not sure about Chromcast but I've had PS Vue through a football and basketball season and haven't missed a single ISU game outside. You get log ins for Watch ESPN and Fox Sports Go too.
So...taking this a step further. Say a guy goes Playstation Vue and gets the Amazon Fire TV for the device, which has the Watch ESPN app on it. He pays the $29 a month Playstation option that only has ESPN and ESPN2, not U or News which is available on the $35 Playstation plan. Cyclones play on ESPNU. Can he go on the Amazon Device, Logon WatchESPN, select PS Vue as his cable provider, and back door into ESPNU even though his PS Vue plan doesn't allow it?

I've got the 40mb fiber connection.

I've had an issue popup with the 40 mb service when I have family over (especially with pre-teens). Network gets congested with more than 5 devices (ie. 2 Tv's, 3 iPads, 2 smartphones, etc.) if you have all those devices streaming/online gaming at once.

Good to know. I currently have Mediacom's 50 Mbps, but I only get a fraction of that, hence my desire to switch.

FWIW, I have centurylink and I have asked about data limits, to which they said they do not have any.

My Setup:
Centurylink Internet Fiber - ~39
PS Vue - 35
Total - $74

Also had to purchase 2 Firesticks and 3 flat antennas (~95). I've been on vue for 1 year. Was paying like $120 prior.
Where the hell did you get Centurylink Fiber internet for $40? It's well over $100 here.

I have the same CL service. Netflix works pretty good even with an iPad & a couple smart phones connected, but our Kodi lags quite a bit with most content. And that's on the Fire Stick a room away from the router. I usually only get ~10-10 MB speedtests wirelessly, and <5 on the PS4 in the basement.

Are you just using the CL modem/router? Anybody have any links to a good tutorial about using a 2nd router to extend your WiFi?

Standard CL modem/router on one end of the house. Most of my TV's are on the other side of the house. Had major prob's with Wifi to my PS3 on the other side of my house.

Opted for using a Powerline Adapter to get the connection to the other side of the house and installed an old router as a wireless access point. This allowed me to extend my WiFi range to the TV's as well as hardwire the PS3.

I don't have any good info on extending with second router. I think it was pretty automagic when I did it.

EDIT: Nevermind, saw you were talking about 40mb connection.
Yeah, you shouldn't tell people you have fiber if you've only got the 40mbps service. Fiber is generally considered 100mbps to 1gbps. Telling people you have fiber when you only subscribe to 40mbps is like saying you have 4K on your 13" black & white TV.

Yeah, you shouldn't comment on people's posts unless you know you are correct. Arguing with people who know what they are talking about is like talking to a TV salesman when you've never seen a TV before.

They can name their product whatever they want. But by definition, "fiber" is over 100mbps.

Actually, fiber internet, by definition, is internet provided by fiber optic cables. These cables produce speeds much faster than DSL, which as far as I can tell can only get up to CL's 40 Mbps. But yeah, 40 Mbps is not fiber.

'Fiber' is short for Fiber Optics, which refers to the medium (ie type of cable) that is coming to my house.

If people want to assume 'fiber' means a level of speed they are incorrect.

Your argument is like saying 'cable' internet dictates there is a minimum certain speed (which it does not)?

I could have indicated 40 mb service instead of Fiber to be more descriptive of my level of service, which could have preventedthis whole discussion.

Looking for a simple answer to maybe not such a simple question:

Trying to decide between sling and vue, which is better?

Criteria: access to as many cyclone games as possible, local news affiliates (prefer CBS for March madness NFL etc)

Everything else secondary as I don't watch a lot of tv
