If we had a championship game and our better team can't beat the other, then the better team doesn't deserve the playoff.

Bring back champ game.

ok, so I've been watching the espn clips of the CFP committee all watching football games.

I got my XXX chewed out the other day because I said that Dr (Saint) Tom Osborne and Barry A were both on the committee. NOT so I was lectured.

If they're not on the committee, why are they both in the room watching the games?

yeah, the fix ain't in.

go cyclones
Tom Osborne said on the radio that he averages 40 hours a week working on the selections.

I bet Iowa wishes they didn't have a championship game right about now.

If you rewind the clock about 5 years right now, 13-0 #1 Clemson and 12-0 #2 Iowa are atop the BCS standings and getting ready to meet in the national championship game. The B1G title game and playoff changed it all.

The Big 12 shouldn't care about whether it has a team that deserves to get in the playoff. It should just care about getting its teams into the playoff. It will do that this year without a CCG. It very nearly got two teams in last year without a CCG - if two other CCGs would have gone the other way to shut out the B1G/ACC's best teams. We're only two years in but I think the evidence so far supports not having a CCG to maximize the teams you get in the playoff.

I also don't know how you would do 2 divisions with 10 teams. If the Big 12 did a CCG, I imagine they would keep the round-robin and then just send the top 2 teams in the league to Jerryworld at the end. So this year, we would have had Oklahoma playing Oklahoma State yesterday. An OU win would have locked them into the playoff. (They already were.) An OSU win would have knocked the Big 12 out of the playoff.

If it wasn't Oklahoma this year, Stanford or Ohio State or somebody would have knocked the B12 out.

I don't know about you guys, but I love today's slate of games and the impact they have. How much more exciting would it be to have a Big12 title game today as well. I miss it.

Agree. Need to add two "northish" type teams. Nobody seems to care that Iowa plays in a mid major division in the Big 10 West. I want ISU to be in a soft division so we can get a schedule like Iowa's.

Remember how close ISU was (two straight seasons)to getting into the Big 12 title game?

Thats a fair point.

I'm just guessing anyway. I think that is really the largest point of this discussion though. We are all just guessing as to whether or not the Big 12 should add a championship game because we only have 2 years of data that provided evidence for opposite conclusions. And I think last year was better evidence for no CCG (with getting 1 or even 2 teams in with Georgia Tech and/or Wisconsin wins) than this year will be for adding one.

As others have stated, only makes sense with at least 12 teams. Championship game after round-robin makes no sense. What would it have accompolished to have OU play OSU for 2nd time yesterday?

The BCS would of had Iowa at #4 last week... http://www.colleyrankings.com/curBcsLike.html

These sites are interesting but the truth is the committee's ranking obviously affects the Coaches and AP they use in place of the Harris. When the committee drops a team like TCU all the way down to #19 for no reason (a team who finished #7 in Sagarin) you can see the effect that has on the coaches and AP polls from then on. At some point on ESPN and during games the # by the team is the commitee's # and it thus taints the coaches/AP from what it truly would have been pre-committee.

Still interesting, but I always cringe a little if people act as if we'd know. Last year it was very evident the way the AP and coaches poll mimicked the committee's TCU drop. The AP poll practically never drops a team a few spots for winning by 50 without this relatively new huge influence.

2 years in a row where the Big 10 team jumped ahead of the good guys after the championship game.

I'm against expansion but this does seem to say something

Got to get a 13th game. Have to. Have to expand to get it. Lack of 13th data point dropped Oklahoma out of a potential "home" game.

They just didn't want Oklahoma and Bama to play until the NC. In the end it really doesn't matter. Gotta beat the best to be the best.

And again it very likely would have put Stanford in the playoff ahead of the Big 12 at the same time if OU did not manage to beat Oklahoma State for the second time this year.

Seems foolish to focus on the potential positives of adding a CCG while ignoring the negatives. OU is in the playoffs so the Big 12 does not "have to" add a CCG.

Lack of a Big 12 voice on the committee hurt OU here more than a 13th data point
