That's why you pay them, though. They do background checks, talk to agents, and all the stuff that would be way too time consuming for our athletic department to do. And they do it faster and more efficiently to boot. It's what they do.

plus a little more secrecy, they could lose business if their employees were leaking info.

Which is certainly Matt Abdelmasseigh. Matt and Jon are good buddies, which is why Jon has drooled over Iowa State for the last 4 years. Not sure why Matt had an agenda, but it seems pretty clear he is the one who fed that information to Rothstein.

How and why would Matt A know anything about what was going on behind the scenes in this coaching search?

So Fred was 99% sure he was leaving... except if the Bulls made it the finals. His first choice for a replacement was Prohm. Yet he still brought TJ back? Either TJ actually does just want to be here as either HC OR AC or he got done dirty by Fred.

I wonder how you're able to log onto a computer most days.

Also... So I also took away that Jamie and Fred have a really good relationship, can't believe how much BS is made up and then becomes half truth, and then message board gospel during these things.

Or he was the right assistant and he knew it would reflect positively on him to do so and better his odds. It's called rolling the dice and he did.

I do think that the source would be someone who wanted TJ to get the job. Could certainly be Matt. But I don't see why it's pretty clear that it has to be Matt A.

Any piece ever written about ISU about Jon Rothstein was because Matt gave him the information. Watch next year, Jon won't write a quarter of the articles about Iowa State.

He worked at the university for 5 years. People talk. He's just the only one that is dumb enough to run to a national writer and spill the beans.

I figured that Jon had a lot of sources at Iowa State and all over the country.

It doesn't matter. But I would LOVE to know who leaked it to him. Hell, for all I know, it really was Pollard.

We will likely never know the whole story. Obviously, TJ could have stayed out west and applied like all of these candidates. Maybe he thought getting a little "on the job" interview would be his best approach (and also appease his wife if she really wants back this way."

And, honestly, I would agree with Leath...big $$ hire...I'd want it done right with ref checks, etc. and still allow Jamie to make the decision.

In regards to who "leaked" info that JP seemed to have an idea, that could be as simple as a staffer who had a water cooler talk and leaked it or a colleague that shared more than they should have.

I don't follow NBA that closely, but this seems absurd.

Absolutely absurd, but unfortunately doesn't make it necessarily untrue. It is amazing the number of very good coaches who get quickly fired in the NBA because they can't turn a pigs ear of a roster into a silk purse.

Hey, Jimmy, I've done such a terrible job of filling this roster for you that I'm going to have to let you go. Good luck!

good stuff Chris. Disappointed that you didn't ask more hard hitting stuff, like his opinion on the authenticity of Hy-Vee Chinese food, but other than that it was really good.

fwiw, Hy-Vee Chinese General Chicken tastes exactly like some street food I had in South Korea...

I'm not really sure if there was ever much of a disagreement there but it is obvious that both Pollard and Leath handled it like they should, very professionally. Even if they didn't fully agree, the results are probably improved if they both do their jobs and neither one just demands it be their way.

just for curiosity sake I wonder who else was among the 6 HC that interviewed? I know Prohm, Underwood, Drew and Moton but that leaves 2 others.

Forget Chinese food, let's discuss what passes for authentic Mexican food in Iowa!

The local Hy-Vee food is so bad I can't even look at it (know it's not that way in larger towns), but is that the Hy-Vee version of what's usually called General Tso?
