Man we if we got Lee then Niang could play more of the 4 and not have to use so much energy rebounding and playing D on opposing 5's. Niang would be matched up with someone who would most likely be the same size or smaller almost all game. Especially once late season hits and Mckay would also be there to rotate into the 5.

Why do people keep saying this? He will be eligible, barring an NCAA letting him play all year, on Dec. 20. That is barely a month into the season, and he will be practicing with them the whole time.

For example, this year, we only had 8 games before Dec. 20, and 25 games after Dec. 20. I'd say that's early in the year.

The CBE is in November this year. So that's 2 games vs Alabama, Maryland, Arizona State

Then the game @Iowa. And a game vs the 3/4 SEC team. Then Drake and the rest of the fluff games. FH said he wanted to schedule another legit D1 team so there's another good game that could be important.

So 1/3 of our season schedule or so will be missed. It isn't inconsequential.

I did forget that he is able to play right after the semester and not when spring semester starts.

Washington State's coach just got fired; how about DaVonte Lacy?

DaVonte Lacy Stats, News, Videos, Highlights, Pictures, Bio - Washington State Cougars - ESPN

He's a 6'4, 215 lb guard, shooting 39% from 3 and averaging 19 points/game, with one year to play (I think he'd have to sit a year though).

i just want to make sure you know that your post was read. Uh-huh...check please.

This kid with:

- Senior Naz
- Senior Nader (he is more guard than forward, fellas)
- Junior Monte
- Junior Thomas
- Junior (RS) SDW
- Soph Custer

Huh...now that I put it down...

Still would be intrigued...

Yes please! A big 3P shooting guard that played well in the Pac-12? Perfect.

At this point, it seems like insiders think someone is going to leave to get more PT. Assuming we have three to give, how great would it be to fill those out with Bryce DeJean-Jones (or Mason), Lee, and then having a guy like Lacy redshirting?

Didn't say it was inconsequential, just that people are saying things like the one I quoted "late in the season". It's not exactly late in the season when 2/3rds or more of the games he will be eligible for.

Also, for as many waivers the NCAA granted last year to play right away, there's always a chance he could play right away.

.
2/3 or 1/3, does it matter? The point is that it's late enough to have concerns about the post position, and at the very least to think it is far from a loaded position. Unless the staff thinks Edozie can make a lot of improvement, we really need a post imo.

In regards to Lee, I'm from the Quad Cities and Ames, Madison, and Champaign are all essentially equidistant. Takes about 2h45m to travel to any of them.

If we need anything, it's a Jake Anderson type guy. Good combo guard who can score, rebound, and play strong defense.

I see your point about Niang playing more of the 4. He'll still post up as well as do all his other offensive things. But defensively, other than being beat on by taller guys, I guess in my mind he would still need to guard the 5, because wouldn't guarding the 4 be too quick for him? Or would he be quick enough to guard lets say an "Ejim" type forward?

I bet they would love to get a freshman or sophomore transfer at the forward position. After striking out on HS Forwards the last two year, they need to get some guys to replace that Niang/Nader/McKay class. It's not urgent, but will become urgent before too long.

By the way, has anybody seen how good a freshman season Vince Hunter had at UTEP?

I'd take Hunter. 12.6 pts 6.8 rebs this year. 57% FG. Gets to the line a lot, but only a 61% FT shooter. Decent defender. Doesn't block a lot of shot and tends to get into foul trouble, but he isn't a bad ball handler for a power forward.

It is too bad we did not get him out of high school. We were in the mix at one point.

I agree. I love the guy, but I'd rather have him sitting on a bigger guy on the blocks than coming out to guard a good forward in this league like Nash from OSU or Ellis from KU. I could be wrong, but it seems like it would be easier to avoid foul trouble playing straight-up defense in the post than trying to guard an athletic forward faced-up to the basket.

Fred has built ISU into a team that can compete for Big 12 championships. In order to win the Big 12 regular season, we need to beat a team that has won it 10 straight years. IMO Fred needs to build a roster that can help us consistently beat KU. Sure we beat them last weekend, but before that KU beat ISU something like 18 of 19 games.

I don't care if we get a transfer, prep or HS but we have two needs:
- A scoring combo guard who can hit the 3 or finish at the basket.
- A physical post player. Lee sounds like a great fit, but the reality is we don't need a great scorer. We need a guy who can body up against the Perry Ellis and Sprangler type guys

I feel we have solid post guys next year in McKay, Niang, Nadel and Hogue- that will do against most teams. However, against KU and UT - we could use a bruiser down low. To the posters who dis a guy because he isn't a 3 point shooter that is insane. Even with a kid like Lee on the court we can easily have 3-4 other 3 point shooters on the court and basketball isn't all about scoring- it is also about making it harder for the opponent to score. If ISU could have slowed down Perry Ellis in the first half and the 2nd chance points in the 2nd half- the KU game would not have been close. A physical post defender that can help ISU from doubling down will go a long ways to helping ISU win Big 12 titles.

I have a hard time seeing Hoiberg poach a player from Tim Floyd.

Why? If he decided to transfer, it is no different than when both programs were recruiting him out of high school.

He is not transferring, so it is a moot point.

I was wondering about that. Couldn't find anything on him transferring. Not sure why someone threw his name into this post. Anyone know what happened to that 5 star recruit Tim Floyd landed? I think he would have been a freshman this year, but backed out of going go UTEP for some reason. Xavier Hamilton I think is the dudes name. I lived in El Paso for a year (gross, I know) and kinda got into UTEP football and basketball, so I follow them a little bit.

Bring in Lee and another Guard. I'm still in the boat that thinks SDW will be real good before it's all said and done.
