Both teams' defenses are respectable (relative to each other). Both teams' offenses are pretty flat. We have weapons on special teams with Mahoney and Brandtner. Kansas State can't kick. I'll take the Clones 20-14 or so.
There counterpoint to our ST weapons is Banks. He returned two for TDs last week. Allen Bell was on one if not both coverage teams and doing well. Things to consider.
I also remember how badly everyone else said we were going to perform at Kent St the week after we got smoked, for multiple reasons, the biggest one being that we hadn't won a road game in 17 tries. If memory serves, Kent St was basically out of the game by the end of the first quarter, certainly by halftime. Follow that with how badly the same people thought we were going to perform against Army because they run the triple option and had a beast for a WR. If memory serves they scored only 10 points all night.
Mark me down for a 28-17 win...
One thing I like to look at in a close game is special teams and I think we are very good in the kicking game. But, I think KSU has a dangerous return man. Do we give up a little punt yardage and kick it away from him?? I still have bad memories of the KSU guy we punted to that turned around that game we had the big lead in.
I say 28-27 ISU wins.
Here's how it happens: both teams get 4 TDs, but KSU misses an extra point, KSU will have a chance to win at the end on a FG, but their Kicker still sucks and misses that too!
Seriuosly though, KSU's kicker is currently 1 for 6 this year and already has a missed XP, I think that'll play a big part in this game, maybe not as directly as above, but I think it will impact KSU's playcalling in the red zone and they may go for it on 4th or something.
How confident are we as a fan base that we're going to win in KC with the injuries we'd come across lately?
now is our coach better than Snyder?
I really like the rugby style punt play. It allows the kicking team to
1) Check to see if a receiver is open for a 1st down just in case
2) Allows a well placed kick that is uncatchable and is proven to maximize net punt yardage.
3) Eliminates the risk of a big return.
4) Virtually eliminates a blocked kick.
I see a hiccup in KC, and the end result won't be pretty
KSU 24
ISU 16
Booo. Get out of here Cyclone hater
Actually you could be right, but I don't think so.
I just wish if there were an opportunity that Rhoads and Co. would do a beat down on these guys like Snyder used to do to Mac. Snyder would never call off the dogs.
Yeah, these scores ain't too pretty...
1995 L, 7-49
1996 L, 20-35 (KSU #14)
1997 L, 3-28 (KSU #9)
1998 L, 7-52 (KSU #4)
1999 L, 28-35 (KSU #15) - big nut kick, this one
2000 L, 10-56 (KSU #19) - with one of our best teams in history
2001 L, 3-42
2002 L, 7-58 (KSU #12) - and we were #21
2003 L, 0-45
2004 and 2005 were very satisfying wins cuz of all this.
