I watched the Stanford/BYU game last week, I expect this game to be very competitive and high scoring on both sides. I do think ISU is more athletic and should be able to rebound and stay in front of their men (I assume Fred/Doc will play Man-to-Man instead of Zone D). BYU has multiple shooters and can hit contested shots, especially Hawes. Their PG is pretty good but short so I belive Kane should be able to exploit that matchup. From what I saw BYU didn't really establish a low post threat nor did thier guards drive into the paint much. Their bigs, they have hight but seemed stiff and should have trouble with both Ejim and Niang. They do run at every chance, I would like to see some improvement in the transition in this game.

I'll go with ISU 82-78, good tough win that is decided in the last two minutes.

Don't get me wrong, I think ISU can win this game and are the better team, but we are a proven bad road team under CFH. Who knows though with a new team

We are not a bad road team, we are a pretty good road team under Fred. For the most part are at least in a position to win.

Bad road teams are not in a position to win.

We got beat by an NBA 3 at Texas, a prayer at Kansas, lost a tough one to OSU. Maybe with Sadler on the bench last year we get a couple of defensive stops when needed. The only real clunkers were Texas Tech and OU.

So no, don't think we are a bad road team.

On the day after a great win, six of the first 10 posts are for a loss to BYU (or a fear of a loss). :skeptical:

Are their bigs better than Notre Dame last year? Can their guards play defense on ours?

We win going away in a shootout because of our hustle on the boards and for loose balls!

I don't think anyone would say that this team is playing as well as that ISU team that faced Notre Dame. It's a road game, and ISU doesn't have the usual time to prepare on the defensive end, so I expect this game to be more difficult than the Michigan game.

I think Fred's teams have competed pretty well on the road the last couple of years, and mostly lacked the ability to close people out in the last few minutes. Yeah, they've looked like crap for sure a few times (Iowa, Texas Tech last year), but they've also been within a few possessions of taking out KU and OSU. But even KU lost at TCU last year, and even Johnny Orr's really struggled on the road. Winning on the road is tough for everyone, and is historically tough for ISU.

Hopefully what we saw at the end of the Michigan game continues and we can close some of those close road games out.

This will be one of our tougher noncon games. BYU is solid. I did watch the BYU vs Stanford game. I don't think Stanford is very good, so some of their stats were probably a little inflated.

One thing that ISU really needed was a little swagger. And I think/hope that the Michigan game gave them that. A little confidence goes a long way, and I think it will help us tremendously in future games.

So? Different team on a different court. I thought BYU would be the tougher game for some time now. It's just opinions so why so mad?

Maybe I shouldn't have said bad road team. CFH has struggled to win on the road, that's a fact. I'm about as optimistic about this basketball season as anyone else but people need to realize Wednesday is going to be a tough game in a very tough environment. If I had to bet on it I'd bet on BYU.

I honestly thought we'd be 2-2 after the first 4 games, so to me we're playing on house money. Just keep it close. Maybe we'll light it up from 3.

Hopefully, Melvin's knee feels good. If we can get Thomas and Morris going I think we win. I will predict we do, as i have had my kool aid, ISU 84 BYU 76.

Also, we are much better defensively.

It is nice to think about how much talent we have that hasn't yet really shown itself in a game ... Thomas, Morris, Dorsey-Walker, Bluford, even Gibson. If guys step up, we can cover an off-night for a starter who gets in foul trouble or has a cold shooting touch.

Thomas especially. It just seems like he hasn't quite found his touch yet. Wednesday would be a good night for him to just start catching fire.

IMO, our defense gives us a much better chance of succeeding in UT than people are realizing. Nothing takes a home crowd out of a game like watching your high-scoring team struggle to score. I feel like last night's defensive showing was better than nearly every game last year, and I can't imagine them staying complacent.

Also, anyone else notice how ****** off Kane was early on at his fellow teammates during a couple sloppy turnovers? I loved watching him do that and then later back it up by running down a Michigan fast break and slapping the ball out of bounds. Love his leadership already.

BYU is a hard place to get a win in. As good as Michigan is, BYU is a solid program and they have a good team this year. I think we lose by about 8.

BYU: 86
Iowa State: 78

However, the win over Michigan could give our guys a ton of confidence heading into Wednesday as well and could propel us to a win. If we are ranked, winning at BYU (assuming we beat UMKC too) and then having some higher ranked teams lose could propel us into the top 15 by next week.

I haven't watched BYU play at all, but just looking at the stats and the roster, I don't understand why anyone is concerned by their interior play. Even with 3 blowouts, they only have 2 posts playing averaging more that 8 mpg, those are Eric Mika (FR, 6'10" 230#) and Nate Austin (JR, 6'11" 230#). Mike has scored some (12.5 ppg), but only averages 4 rebounds per game and 3.5 fouls in around 20 minutes - playing against poor competition. Austin hasn't scored much at any time in his career, but is averaging around 10 rpg while playing almost 30 minutes a game. He's averaging 3.5 fouls per game too. After that, they have some young big players, but they have barely played in blowouts, I wouldn't expect anything out of them. 6'10" skinny guys that aren't super athletic are the exact types of players who struggle against our posts. They are going to have run the floor, step out and guard the perimeter without fouling, and guard the Ejim/Niang multiple post moves without fouling.

The guards are what make BYU go, but I doubt they've seen anything like Kane, he should be able to post any of them up at any time. They could really struggle with the ISU's physical offense, if we attack the rim (and don't get called for charges every play).

It doesn't look to me like they have the kind of 6'6" physical athlete to match up with Kane, Hogue and Ejim.

I am afraid of a tight whistle in this game though, that could really take our edge away.

This will be the game where Long's defense and Thomas's shooting makes the difference.
