Bruce Pearl has made Alabama fans care about basketball. Don’t ever underestimate that.

The question is, will that continue once Pearl is under investigation. And don't think he won't be, Person took one for him this time but it will eventually land in Bruce's lap, it always does.

Randy’s first question at the press conference:
“Coach, I see you’re a candidate for Alabama. What do you think about that? And also, Hoiberg is likely headed to Nebraska. If you leave for Alabama, does Hoiberg come back to Ames?”

Welp, it appears to be the ISU MBB apocalypse. Fred to kNU, Prohm to Alabama. Fran will pull a McDermott and bolt for Georgetown. Iowa will hire Nate Oats from Buffalo (blind squirel, nut, once in a while). TJ will spurn our offers to come back, we'll get Alford.

Oh the humanity....

I like how they say it's a "logical" hire because he was a team manager at Alabama sometime in the previous century. Ha!

You've got a problem when no other school wants your coach. I'm glad we don't have that problem.

Don't forget the Big 10 will be taking KU and Texas, the SEC will be taking both Okies, the ISU will then be headed to the AAC or MWC, Pollard will be leaving for Wisconsin, Hines writes about the team stuck sleeping on the bus, half the team declares or transfers after a loss by a blarge.

Depends if they like being good at basketball enough to care

That's it, where is a ledge when you need it?

But Michigan DOES have history. It's not like you can throw money at any program and make it a winner. You can try, and schools will try, but there's no guarantees.

There's been talk of Alabama trying to compete in basketball since their last hire. I remember rumors that they were going to throw a bag of money at Hoiberg while he was still at ISU.

The point is, there is more to creating a successful program than money.

Michigan has a fanbase that, at least at one point, cared about basketball. They also care about football.
Bama fans have never cared about basketball, and they probably wont in the future. They spend too much to get football tickets.

I guess I don't get where you're coming up with what Alabama has done. They were essentially what we are right now in the 2000s. It's not like they're some putrid wasteland where they're Northwestern. They had a good run with Gottfried and are now in a pretty similar spot to where Michigan was before they hired Beilein. Probably even better. They set an attendance record last year as well.

This isn't to argue that Alabama is ISU or even some sort of sleeping giant but people treat that program in a way that isn't reflective of reality. Like almost every program, they're a coach away from being successful.

At least we end up in the same conference as Baylor.
