I said it on the other thread and I'll say it here: the Cards just got bailed out. It may suck to lose Albert, but this is by far the best scenario for them in the long run.
Absolutely.

If true, I'm glad it's the Angels. Definitely wouldn't mind some of these huge contracts they keep giving away to bite them in the butt one of these days.

I hope the Cards use that money to shore up some deficiencies in the middle infield, outfield, and maybe add an arm to the rotation/bullpen. Another decent bat in the lineup would be good, too.

I was beginning to think Albert was coming back, but I'm not surprised this happened.

Makes sense, seeing as he can at least DH when he is 53 years old and his contract is expiring.

Mostly true. But Albert had said all along it wasn't about the money. Straight up liar. Ruins a lot of his credibility/goodwill IMO.

Read one article about his agent if you want to figure out why a deal to STL didn't get done...

Does AP become irrelevant now playing LA? When was the last time American cared about a baseball player that played on the west coast??? Ken Griffey and Arod with Seattle? So for the past 15 years, no one has cared about the west coast - mostly because of games not starting until 9/10pm each night.

John Heyman just tweeted that the Angels are about to sign a TV deal worth $150 million per year! That will help soften the blow of Pujols and CJ's contracts... I wonder how many teams are calling on Trumbo now?

Angels have also inquired about Garza...

Cards fan here, I feel the same way. Bittersweet to see him go, but even what StL offered him was way too much.

I would argue that it was cared about when the Angels won the series in 2002.

It may take about 5-6 years, but the Cardinals will be laughing at the Angels by about June of 2017, IMO.

Check out this article:

Must Be Nice: New York Mets Agree To Pay Retired Baseball Player Bobby Bonilla $1.2 Milli A Year Until 2035

The Angels may have an aging star on their longterm payroll.

The Yankees have done this, so this isn't new to the American League.

If bonds had played for the cards he would be a household name. He didn't and for that reason no one really has heard of him.
