I have to respectfully disagree with carlhungus. Statistically they were getting stops early in the game. However they were forced to keep going out there because the offense was not getting first downs. At some point against a team team that is trying to wear you down you need a few long drives to catch your breath.

Also the same theory goes for all defense but Esp. a bend but dont break defense. You keep the play in front of you and try to force them to grind it out. But it requires a lot of energy so you need your offense to let you take a lengthy breaks to be able to succeed at this strategy.

Our running was a joke today, wide receivers could not catch balls, the play calling was not great either, and the QB stunk it up and could not hit a broad side of a barn today. Our offense has problems fixable problems, but time is running out. I love our defense those guys just kick *** although they could not get off the field and stop them enough on third down.

Kansas State is one tough mofo and in my opinion are very capable to win the conference this year. We had our opportunities today just could not get over the hump. I am stumped as to what the hell this offense has to do to be better, I know we need A LOT better QB play.

Lets face it. We are mediocre. And that's all there is to it. Steele or Barnett won't fix the problems we have. This team is set for a 5-7 record and my prediction for this season has not changed.

I'm not upset at all because we aren't good. That's the bottom line. I knew this before the season and this is honestly better than I expected us to do. So I'm content.

I agree with this. Our offense is pedestrian and has been for many years. It is unrealistic for anyone to expect that our offense would improve enough to rack up the points necessary to beat teams like the ones we face week in and week out in this conference. I had high hopes for the running backs due to the experience we had returning, but it turns out that they can't do anything on their own to create separation without KO and Hicks mowing guys down on the line. The longest running play of the day was 11 yards by freaking Woody, for crying out loud! And he got half those yards while stumbling forward.

I already knew our receiving corps would be terrible. They're undersized and not physical enough get through the jamming by DB's. It doesn't help that they can't regularly catch the ball when it hits them in the hands.

NFL ready QB? Who? Collin Klein will play wide receiver in the NFL. NFL ready :biglaugh:

No joke. Collin Klein will never step under center in an NFL uniform, ever. He's a tight end at best.

Some Cyclone fanatics are yo yos. Up or down. We got beat by a great team and had a chance to win. Offense is underwhelming but will win more games. The sun will rise tomorrow. Okie lite looked pedestrian in a win vs Kansas. It's a winnable game and I guarantee the offense will look better.

Pathetic. We are 4-2 with a road win against a top 25 team and just had the number 6 team in the country on the ropes.

And there it is....the obligatory "the sun will rise tomorrow" post. Surprised it took this long to show up.

I don't think K-State is a top 5 level team. Top 15, probably, but not top 5. This was a winnable game, that's why it has some fans here burned a bit. This is the 5th year in a row that we have played them tough and could have won it, were within one score, just can't get over the hump. With all the ***-whippings we've seen them lay on other conference opponents, they haven't been able to do it to us. That's why I'm frustrated. Tired of losing to the mildcats.

ISU just took on a top10 team and the game came down to the final possession.

This place gets stupid after all games.

Re: We need to find a QB

Best we can probably do is shore up the run game and not put the game in the qbs hands to have to try to win it. Afraid we have seen the best we have and it's disappointing but Steele is not the answer and jb is very limited. If Richardson is the future play him but there is a reason he hasn't been in yet I would guess.

I think you are mostly right here about the run game and how to win. Have to win with defense and "do no harm" offense. That rules out Jantz. Barnett would be serviceable if the O-line could block well enough to establish a run game. But they can't. If either the O-line or Barnett were better they could have challenged for the top of the league. Sadly that is not the case.

Disagree about Richardson though. I think you don't bail on two guys with experience for a rookie unless the season is officially toast, which it isn't. We can win 3 more games with Barnett, given this defense.

not much standing between Kstate and the title now. I am disappointed and wanted to win. Could have won this game but that's what Kstate does, win close games and not many would say the cyclones should have won. Iowa state is greatly improved. Is it enough to win week in and week out probably not but if you all feel better beating up every aspect of the offense after each loss then I guess that's your right. The offense has been bad in every one of Rhoads 4 years. Progress is hard to spot but somehow he has his team in position to win and I look forward to watching the remaining 6 games.

Re: We need to find a QB

Honest question here. If we have a QB who can throw, but is not mobile do we give them a shot? I was talking to a RS Fresh I straight up asked if Rohach is the future of the program. He said he can throw a lot better than Barnett but he cant run. If we go his route next year or after we will obviously have to change our offense.

I still think that JB gives us the best chance to win games. Wish he would step it up and hit the open receivers. The running game was not his fault. It is sad to see our lead rusher with only about 20 yards in the stats.. you have to wonder how we weren't blown out!

Iow state doesn't have the receivers to support a drop back passer. Many of the plays that are made are made by the ability of the qb to run

I LOL at this. Look at the last decade, ISU was only in the top half of the Big 12 once and that was 2005 when ISU was like 4th or 5th.

At this point I still think Barnett gives us the best chance to win, but he's far from being "the answer" that half this site made/makes him out to be.

The answer this year. I predict it will be like AA. No one will beat him out and while he will be beloved for his character and at times gutsy plays, we will always wonder what could have been if We had been able to recruit one qb that mug actually play qb for another big 12 team

Running game AWOL is a symptom of an inept passing game. Defenses can take the run game away since we can't pass effectively all game when forced. Sure we can put a drive or two together with passing but then go anemic (3 and out) the next two drives.

Yes, the issues go past the QB spot but it is also not immune to criticism.

EXECUTION.

We had an inept passing game last year, but a solid run game.
