In addition to the four tenths I reported yesterday morning we got an additional 2" by this morning. Still didn't stop a couple of idiots from watering the lawn this morning while I was out on my morning walk. Here's a clue for you: if the almost 2.5" we got in the last 24+ hours doesn't do it, your lawn is done for the year.

In west Ames we had 0.8" when I checked late yesterday afternoon. However, I hadn't checked gauge since Monday, so it probably included whatever happened Wed. night. Many plants dying in back yard including a peony we transplanted earlier. Hope it comes back next year.

NC/NE Iowa caught a lot overnight in the northern two tiers of counties. Lots of reports of 2-4", with northeastern Mitchell county topping out at 6"+.

It's at least a start for the D1 and D2 drought areas up here, but I think the bulk of it stayed north of the D3 down toward Waterloo. I haven't seen if the D3 over by Spencer caught enough to matter or not. I'm not hoping for a wet harvest by any stretch, but we've got to start building some soil moisture for the '22 crop year or we're going to be in a world of hurt.

My rain gauge in Altoona only got a tenth of an inch - the way it came down seems like we should have gotten more.

4.5 inches to 7 inches in North Central Iowa. Probably matched our season’s precipitation we had gotten since Spring. Flood or Drought.

Crazy how spotty it is this year. Also in West Ames, only 0.4" for the week including yesterday.

Last Friday night I had 0.8" and the airport reported 1.22"

Family farm NE of Algona had over 7 inches as of 6:30 this morning and it hadn't stopped yet.

The crazy part is despite far northern Iowa getting pretty widespread heavy rains a number of the rivers have hardly moved. East Fork of the Des Moines in Algona is still at just a trickle of 53 cubic feet per second of flow. Usually that much rain would move things by hundreds of CFS all by itself.

Edit: I should be clear to exclude the far NE corner of Iowa from this; there, where the drought has been less bad, the rivers have responded in a more typical fashion.

Holy shitballs did it pour in North Iowa tonight. Drained the rain gauge from. Last night at about 3 inches. So it was empty. Started raining at about 8 and it was a nasty storm when rain stopped checked again and it was about 6 inches. My rain gauge is also in a terrible spot and under a tree so it's likely it rained much more. Wind Bent my flag pole over and the town sign south of Town blew over. I needed four shop vacs running constantly for the better part of 3 hours in my basement to keep my house from floating away. Will be interesting to asses any further damage in the AM.

We just had a small pop up storm hit us in west ames about 3:15 am. Loud crack of lightning and thunder along with a downpour woke us up. Several large branches are down in the yard and we lost power. No rain gauge here but I’d guess we got around a 1/4” in about 30 minutes. Crazy how localized it is. Only about 70 people near us without power according to the outage map.
