How can I still be using data if I have mobile data turned off????

I dunno, my phone has been racking data charges for months like that. Pretty fishy. I never used to use a third of my available data, and now with no changes in use it is always right up against the line. I haven't been running over, so it isn't the biggest deal, but I wonder what's up with that.

Having your kids in the car when you slide/skid/lose control amplifies the fear factor astronomically, doesn't it? Glad you're okay. :)

Things I am not nostalgic for (it's a long list) includes vintage cars with their crappy brakes, poor handling, metal dashes, sharp nobs and buttons etc. Today is crumple zones, air bags, baby seats, disc brakes, ABS, mini-vans that handle better than small cars 40 years ago, etc.

Grandnephews buckled into a Honda Odyssey > sis and me bouncing around in the rear seat of a '50s vintage Buick.

I was reading that thread last night to unwind. I wasn't ready to be PO'd at Cyclone fans on the game thread, because an AWESOME number of fans STAYED last night at Hilton! I am imagining the OU is a "photo negative" of the ISU thread. :)

Thank you for linking it. I read through it today while at work and knowing the outcome the cockiness of the thread early on made it that much funnier. Someone linked the iowa thread also and I read through that, they cannot get over calling us thugs can they. I still havent decided if I want to read through 1k game thread posts or not (I am really bored at work today, the LEO guys are on their way to Omaha and the rest of the staff either took off early or is telecomming from home because of the snow).

So sick of hearing everyone say having a child will significantly reduce our taxes. "Just wait" they say.

I recalculated our return and added a child to see how things would change. We went from owing $4,089 to the fed to owing $2,187. That's about $1,900 dollars and we would still owe. All I see on Facebook are people getting 4,5,6k back from "having a child". /rant

There was an issue awhile ago with Facebook auto playing videos that was causing people to use data, not sure if that still happens or not. May be a similar issue with a different app?

We have 4 kids and don't get insane amount back. I think part of it is how many credits you are elegible for (income based I think) also also if you claim/use childcare. We also don't believe in taxes as a savings mechanism. Some people set themselves up for large returns then vacation/pay bills/spend money. We like to keep our money throughout the year and invest it ourselves. ;)

I'm not really thinking of it as banking it, per se. My ex did consulting work as a side business to his faculty position, and I got in the habit of claiming zero deductions on our W-4s so that we never had to worry much about having to pay in April, regardless of how much consulting income we had to claim that year. Never got out of the habit. :)

Those people probably qualify for the EIC credit with low income. Anything over around 22k of income makes you start to fall out of the "sweet spot" for the high credits for having kids.

So have a kid while I'm poor?

Got it.

it pains me to even type this because it's not how i feel but i can see how people would think giving all these tax breaks to low income people is really punishing people for going to school or getting a good job or saving their money. if you are responsible and not frivolous with spending you see people "get things" for free while you don't qualify.
