On one of my first RAGBRAIs before I learned to carry a tube and inflator I had a puncture on a particularly nasty stretch of pavement. I walked about 4 miles back to the last mobile bike shop I had seen. There was a long line due to the horrible pavement. While standing in line we hear a couple on a tandem:

Stoker: Look at that long line for the bike shop.

Captain: Heh, heh. Sucks to be them.

Tandem tire: Bang!!!!

Karma: Take that, fools!

The kicker to the story is when I got all repaired and on the road I learned that there was another bike repair shop set up just over the hill about a half mile farther down the road from where I punctured.

The only flat I have ever had while riding was borrowing a buddies bike while in Phoenix. Flat was from a big thorn of all things. I do carry a spare tube and actually tested my new compact pump yesterday because I had never used a compact pump on a presta valve. Only time I had used it was on a schrafer value helping out flat tire hippy chick last summer.

Got most of gear set up on new bike, checks weather and of course:

Wind Speed NW 21 G 30 mph

**** you Minnesota! Well, at least it isn't hilly in the Twin Cities if you stay away from the St. Paul bluffs.

Oh, almost forgot, just for Chaser. Ordered a Kryptonite bike lock at 10:30 last night. Was delivered this afternoon.

I have heard that the thorns are the worst hazard for bike tires in that part of AZ but I have never biked there.

I was doing family things so I didn't see much of it last night. Was it Jens Voigt? If so, he is actually German and one of my favorite cyclists of all time.

When riding and struggling I will sometimes pull out one of Jens' best known refrains: "Shut up, legs!"

Yes, it was him. Ugh. My terribleness of recognizing foreign accents.

I'm jealous. @wxman1 is at Wrigley today, saw 2 Bryant HRs and a Rizzo HR.
So *ttthhhhhppppbbbbt*...

Okay, full disclosure, I totally wimped out and did not ride. Used wind as excuse. Riding tomorrow with a younger alumni dude on road bikes. I will probably die. Pants is only like three miles away so he'll probably cherry pick my stuff before the rest of you can even mobilize for a looting run.

It was awesome and made up for the third grade issue in the outfield early on.

Not exactly sure.
Where are you going?

Maybe Vegas. Had a sons classmate tell me that they would be busy on a certain weekend because they had to go to nebby to get their passports to go to Vegas later. The kid was a freshman. Neither parent spoke English. The other adults and myself didn't ask anymore questions.
