GeJos?? Not heard of Dutch letters, 45 years here, or gojos. I'm lost

Dutch letters are a flaky pastry in the shape of letters found in central Ia. Boone bakery and Pella both sell them. I've never noticed if they sell them up by Orange City and that area. They are ok but personally they aren't my favorite baked good. It's kind of like most things in Pella kind of overrated. (Ducks for cover now.)

Dutch Oven Bakery in Ames (on Duff, between Kum & Go & the railroad tracks) makes Dutch letters also. I'm told they're very good, but like you - I'm not a fan of the genre.

Cue Dutch Oven jokes from JC now...

Clear Lake is a pretty little town. May have to come back for a weekend sometime.
I'm going to recommend that you don't fly in though.

Was going to the UPS store in Janesville to drop off my laptop. Stopped at the gas station to get some gas, and there's the UPS driver. So I gave the package to him. Saved me a trip!

Not exactly sure.
Well what an opportunity for some father son bonding time ;). Is the coach just a coach or does he teach at the school also?

Won't coach baseball. We bond quite a bit already.

He sells insurance. Son said he slowed down his yelling the last couple weeks, and guess what, they started playing better and better. Wife's cousins kid, why we were invited to his wedding. Wife's family (ones with her maiden name) is considered to be the most competitive family in the community. So competitive that when someone has hit jerk mode on the competitive level they call it "wife's maiden name" competitive. They are known for screaming and being very belligerent. Wife's family has many coaches in it, usually assistant so there is someone to hold the crazy down.

Question: do any of you have "work spouses"? My last work wife left a couple of years ago and I have not found a suitable replacement. (and before any of you misinterpret this, google "work spouse", nothing sexual or even romantic)

My real wife knew my previous 2 work wives and she just asked me if my co-worker who backs me up when I'm out of the office is my new work wife. Close, but not quite yet.

Anyone else have a similar work relationship?

I can't believe it is actually raining right now! We have had next to nothing forever. Everything has gone north or south of us.

I did...two bosses back (I've had nine in my time here). He was about a year older than me - we had very similar goals and work ethics and senses of humor. Basically, we worked as a team rather than as boss/employee...and acted like an old married couple (sans the romance/intimate relations part). Our spouses also got along well.

Only once back when I was gainfully employed. First job out of grad school. His office was across the hall from mine. Ate lunch with him when our spouses were not available. We shared a secretary back when people actually had those, and he wondered why she always did my stuff first. I clued him in that she hid stuff in a drawer when it was done hoping she wouldn't get more work lol. He once got a call from some raving lunatic clientele in Arkansas who didn't want to talk on the phone but in person because of the "n-words on her party line." He put her on speaker and was laughing hysterically (he was a black man). Literally crying. He supported me through sexual harassment by our mutual supervisor. Great guy to commiserate with. I started getting some better assignments than him and made sure they went his way when we moved back to Iowa.

Similar work ethics and sense of humor are a must. My previous work wives always got my jokes.

Last work wife and I used to go to lunch once a week or once every couple of weeks and talk about our kids, spouses, issues at work, etc. I do miss that. Occasionally I'll go to lunch with my male co-workers, but it's not the same. We just talk politics, sports, etc.

We talked about everything, but also were in a rotisserie baseball league together so he would always try and get me to take some chump trade. Bad thing about eating with him, he always wanted to go to this place that only sold greasy french fries that he loved. Another one of our buddies always wanted to go for fast food sushi. Neither of these were at the top of my lunch choices.

A close one but she has another guy that is definitely her work husband. I like to think of myself as the work mistress.

I'm going to recommend that you don't fly in though.

Not a work wife, but a wrestling wife. Wife's friend and her husband is a coach. When my wife was busy, she went to a daughters basketball game or one of us had to serve tourney breakfast, we would help each other. Found out that after one of the "dates", my wife asked her about it. She said since I drove and paid for supper (just a drive through grab) and it was after the third "date" she figured she needed to put out. Wife apparently laughed. Don't know if I should be happy that wife knows it wouldn't happen or offended by her laughing about it happening.
