We were going to plant fewer tomato plants this year because we always seem to overdo it. After the hail storm we bought all replacement plants but as we started to clear the garden to replant we noticed several of the damaged plants were coming back. So here we are with a ton of tomato plants again this year. We don't even have enough tomato cages.

Gotta ask.........why could the Mrs not go to church because she was pregnant?

I can think of a number of reasons. Gotta pee a lot. Hard pews hurt back. Confined to bedrest with something. Preeclampsia.

Our garden has been gangbusters already this year. Husband said he cut back on jalapenos, but having a hard time using them already. Our bell peppers and onions usually are poor but are already harvesting a lot of them. A lot of cayenne peppers too. The cabbages look good. Have only picked four tomatoes so far but when a few more turn, we will be in salsa business. Thinking of making peach salsa until we have abundance of tomatoes, did that last year and loved it.

Not sure if we have been better about watering, husband's use of the compost soil, or combination thereof, but it is much better than usual.

Do you have a favorite recipe for that? If not and it is just a make by feel thing, can you tell me what you put with the peaches? Sounds intriguing...

We still have a wait on our tomatoes thanks to Alan Hail.

Not sure if CF overlords will allow link?

Saw it on The Pioneer Woman, she made about four different salsa recipes. It makes a lot, sometimes I reduce the amount when making.

Sweet baby Jesus, that looks heavenly! As I was scrolling down I thought, this just needs a little cilant...there it is. Now for a little sea sal...I guess she has that next.

That much sweet and spicy...

Also make sure you never have burgers this summer without fresh tomato slices on the table. Once they start bearing we rarely have a lunch or dinner without tomatoes on the table.

You gonna get yo lycopene this summer!

too bad none will be ready for the party :(

I've been doing grilled cheese and tomatoes since I could start picking but haven't built up any abundance of tomatoes yet. The first one ripe was a giant heirloom one though.

You can make fresh salsa every week. We grow more tomatoes than we need as well. My son loves them and will go out and steal them whenever Mrs. Velo is picking them. He'll eat two or three of the big ones at a time just munching them like an apple.

You can also dice and freeze your surplus for your fall and winter chili.
Diced tomatoes can be dried also...or canned...

I can hit the "1" and start on my microwave at home to heat something up for a minute. The microwave at work does not work this way.

As a result, about once a month I heat something up at work for one stupid second.

...I now have 18 days to maintain my average.

We have a wall microwave/oven unit. On the microwave timer function, you set the minutes by entering 6-0-0 for 6 minutes. On the oven timer you set minutes by pushing just 6 for 6 minutes. There may have been times I wanted the oven timer set for like 4 minutes and end up setting it for 4 hours and wonder why the timer is not going off . . .

I just use the timer on the phone for everything so my feeble old brain doesn't get confused by differences between microwave timer and oven timer.

Teenage daughter just got accepted into the National Honor Society. Is it weird that I feel like she's accomplished more in 16 years than I have in nearly 50?

Not weird if it is true.

If you had come to the ISU happy hour last night and helped with the trivia contest stuff you'd have something to brag about. Maybe.

That would have helped. I need to follow that stuff more closely. Also, it would have gotten me out of baseball practice.

Dog and I watching Amish put a new roof on across the street. These guys are never out of shape, eat a lot of dessert, do not have fitbits or gym memberships, are never seen jogging. When they put on our roof, thought one of the teens was interesting because he was drinking energy drinks and Mt. Dew. They came over to say hi and I gave them some bell peppers of which I have plenty.
