Take a four week vacation with little advance warning; make sure it crosses over a fiscal year or quarterly boundary, and disconnect your phone. They will figure it out on their own.
My job doesn't work that way. I work for an outsourcing company so I work on automated solutions for our clients as well as setting up monitoring all the systems we have as well as providing support on system upgrades and disaster recovery tests. Plus I end up doing a lot of day to day technical support and investigation of problems.

It's a lot of stuff that happens in the background so as long as things move smoothly it all goes unnoticed because the only time management takes notice is when 1 thing goes wrong, not the 1000's of things that go right.

I may be crazy, but I swear that Dan Winters said a "tire blew a bus on the interstate" on WHO13 news just now...
Several years ago I was right next to a bus on I-94 when one of the rear tires blew. It sounded like a howitzer. I could seriously feel the shock wave hit the car. I was just glad it was a rear and not a front as I have not been impressed with the driving skill of some of the

drivers.

I guess I should be glad I don't have to dodge

drivers who be running people down.

It is! And it was so slick, and he didn't miss a beat. So I'm not really sure I even heard it! :D

Husband & I were watching Tour de France coverage late last night. They had a French commentator, and with me half listening, I swear he said "Freddie Freshlegs". I then realized he said "...very fresh legs...". Between his accent and my tiredness...

Like audio with a movie...you don't notice it until something's wrong.

There was a young woman in Omaha that used to play in those bar poker leagues. I heard her one day talking about applying to be on Big Brother and moving to Las Vegas so she would be closer to LA for her Hollywood career.
I haven't seen her around in a while but checked the Big Brother website and don't see her there so I guess there goes that Hollywood career. I guess she can still play bar poker in Vegas.

I was doing family things so I didn't see much of it last night. Was it Jens Voigt? If so, he is actually German and one of my favorite cyclists of all time.

When riding and struggling I will sometimes pull out one of Jens' best known refrains: "Shut up, legs!"

Velos bus tire thingy reminded me that I was at Erik's Bike Shop (not runner Erik) the other day when one of the repair guys blew up a tire. BANG! Man, it was loud and I was 20 feet away. The biker owner was standing right next to it. Bet her ears were ringing.

On one of my first RAGBRAIs before I learned to carry a tube and inflator I had a puncture on a particularly nasty stretch of pavement. I walked about 4 miles back to the last mobile bike shop I had seen. There was a long line due to the horrible pavement. While standing in line we hear a couple on a tandem:

Stoker: Look at that long line for the bike shop.

Captain: Heh, heh. Sucks to be them.

Tandem tire: Bang!!!!

Karma: Take that, fools!

The kicker to the story is when I got all repaired and on the road I learned that there was another bike repair shop set up just over the hill about a half mile farther down the road from where I punctured.

Not exactly sure.
So I can feel like I fit in. I fixed my son's bike brakes last night.

This morning I bought a car for my daughter. I'm getting older and more scared by the .minute.
