We are waiting for a major leaguer to pull this move out after a home run. That kid is awesome.

If a major leaguer did that, he'd get plunked his next time up for sure. That kind of stuff leads to base clearing brawls.

Watching the video, I think the kid is awesome. If I were the umpire, I would be pretty annoyed after the first 20 feet. If I were the coach I wouldn't be happy either.

Much funnier since it's not my kid, that's for sure.

Birthing is a weird word.

I think the ice chips and clear liquids is a thing for pretty much all deliveries. Not sure why though. Maybe if you do have to go into surgery, even in the midst of a traditional deliver, you are already prepped and ready to go.

Clear liquids also look better coming back up. ;) It took me three kids (plus other hospilizations) to realize I throw up when on narcotics. Hubby thinks I was crazy because after the deliver of kid #3 I was eating a favorite snack, and it happened to come back up. Did not phase me, continued to eat that food to this day. He, on the other hand, has a very repulsive reaction anytime he sees me eating that.

I bet that's a big factor. Clear stuff probably upsets the stomach less and comes up easier.

Mrs. Velo was also extremely nauseous from the Morphine. Throwing up is not fun when you have recently been opened up from hip to hip*.

*Probably should clarify that I am talking about a C-section here...

It is really early on in the process of us switching over to this new company that bought us but the few people that have dealt with them are very excited for the prospects.
We went from being a minuscule part of an $8 billion conglomerate that had no understanding what we do to a $600 million 3 year old small company that knows exactly what we are and do.

No need to clarify. We'll interpret this how we choose to interpret it.

*Dam, I'm not very good at this turning over a new leaf and acting mature thing.

From what I understand, it's because of the potential aspiration risk if general anesthesia is needed. But advances in how that's administered and the rarity of aspiration mean that it's likely an overkill practice for low-risk patients at this point. More hospitals are allowing snacks and light meals though now, because it turns out going through many hours (or days!) of labor with no nutrition ends up leaving women even more exhausted when they get to the end.

I sound like one of those know it all moms-to-be now, don't I. I did a lot of research on this because I was really unhappy at the thought of no food for so long and wanted to know why. Food is a primary concern to me right now :p In the end it will turn out I'm not hungry and don't want food anyway I bet.

I totally understand this. I read the whole doggone What to Expect When You're Expecting book. If I hadn't missplaced my man card years ago I'd let you take it right now.

And if a woman gets hungry, there's a whole team of servants that will bring her what she wants to eat while she doesn't have to leave the comfort of the big comfy bed. When I got hungry I had to go out in the hall, walk a third of the way across the floor and into the pantry to get the little ice cream cup out of the refrigerator in the pantry.

I know all y'all are kidding, but I'm fighting the strong urge to give you all a good ear flick. (And I haven't experienced childbirth)

My mom says she started having contractions around 4 am or so with me, and she didn't wake my dad up. They got ready to go when he got up for work. I wasn't born until almost 5pm that day. My mom would still say the dry turkey sandwich and potato chips she had at 7pm was one of the best meals she ever had.

P.S. - Happy birthday +1 @jccyclone

My MIL tells the story of the hard time she had with her third. Apparently back then at her hospital they would routinely give women in labor an enema. She didn't like it so by the third one she didn't eat anything as soon as she thought she was in labor - no food; no enema - she fixed them. The only problem was that after a long labor and nothing to eat she didn't have the energy to push properly so the delivery was tougher than it needed to be.

I hope she doesn't mind me telling this...

My mom would work so hard getting everything done as soon as she started labor so that there was nothing to ever worry about while she was away. Labor might start at sunup; she would work all day and then have Dad take her to the hospital at 4 or 5. She had seven.

I do know that being strong enough to carry and deliver a baby was never a problem because the woman is pretty slight but never stopped working even when 9 months pregnant.

So I have been waiting to get a new phone for a year now. Finally decided to take advantage of a promo this week. Figured 2pm on a Wednesday would be a good time to go in. Nope. Knew they would have to order the ne because I wanted a iPhone. Had to wait for three customers before me with 2 employees. Finally my turn, the phone is on backorder. Figured I waited this long, I can wait a bit longer . . .

Yeah - the enema was common. Since "bearing down" is very much like being constipated, I guess they didn't want surprises along with the baby. :D

lucky bastard. I had to walk down to the cafeteria and then sit all by myself to eat lunch, all while the wife took a nap.
