Last class Wednesday night! It was mostly about boobs so not much of interest.

They talked about fore vs. hind milk and one of the notes mentioned electrolytes. So DH is like, foremilk has what babies crave, it's got electrolytes! That's from something I'm guessing?

They showed many videos of babies eating and one new mom had a helpful lactation consultant. The consultant spoke and was very clearly Australian. I'm not sure if that helped the process but now I kinda want an Australian helper person too, she seemed very friendly.

Not gonna lie, I was way more knowledgeable than the average person in this class just due to my background so a lot of the stuff was routine to me. At some point DH was like how do you know X? And I'm like cause I know how boobs work! You milk them! He's like "I have boobs, can you milk me?" I do know what that's from.

Talking about burping babies and nurse person is like oh and babies fart. You'll be surprised at what they are capable of. Remembering the sounds nieces made, I won't say I don't look forward to baby farts. I predict they will be entertaining.

They made us practice different positions for holding the baby and that was awkward AF. Again, this thing staring up at you. Judging you.

Overall though, I didn't love the class. It was a bit too heavy-handed on the "feed your baby this way or they grow up fat, sick, and stupid" stuff. Like, **** happens and let's not put in things like "don't keep any formula around the house so you aren't tempted to use it" because really? Like women need more mom guilt. Also, it's nice that you'd like women to directly nurse for longer than three months. Telling us to try and extend our maternity leave if possible to do so........that's just not a reasonable suggestion.

Next week we're doing our tour and I have like a million questions so I think they're going to hate me.

Started off strong by talking about boobs, but then got weak when you started talking about baby stuff.

Speaking of the venting thread, wife just mentioned one issue I have with the local school district. (I have many, but with wife being on staff I have to be careful). There is an open position and she just mentioned to me who is getting an interview (sounds like one person getting one). It’s a local. They always hire the locals. This school district is weak and going backwards, I honestly believe my kids are being short changed in this district academically, but no way I can bounce them out since the wife is on staff and a local.

If your academics are weaker (although they don’t see it much because they are so focused on athletics), why hire those who came through your system. They say it’s because they will be committed, no..... it’s blind loyalty. Many of these teachers got a degree from a “college” I believe that just wants to sell degrees.

/rant. Have to go.

Those teachers are going to live there no matter what. Yes if you hire new grads so to speak they may leave but you know what they are already leaving the state because they can't get jobs here. You can also be a little more selective. They are correct someone from MSP, DSM, CID etc will probably leave at some point. There are people from smaller communities that would adjust better too.

I know a lady that is from a small community, went to a small college, got a job teaching in a small community. Guess what? She met some guy (my cousin) they got married and 15-20 years later they are still there and she is president of the school board and a prominent leader of the local 4H Chapter.

As you said though you are not going to change their line of thinking

Would guess that those MSP/DM folks, even if they left, would bring some new thoughts and processes that could help, not saying all current ways are bad, but unless everyone is hammering out a 36 (max for me was a 34/35 back then) in ACTs, there are some places that can be improved. Plus when everyone is local, all administrators become one by advancement, and you know that teachers hate their bosses on a routine bases. That creates even more conflict and division.

Had a meeting with a woman (accidentally agreed to co-lead Church this Sunday while the pastor is out) and she has had the same run ins as me. Not suprisingly she is not a true local (moved to town halfway through school, need to be multiple generations to be local) like me.

Inbox under 5000, making progress! Turns out half the 12k are on a server so when I was doing my mass deletes, a bunch of even older stuff wasn't even there. Think I knocked out 1000 today just from accessing that and deleting.

Felt a bit hopeful when a job I applied for didn't extend their deadline.
Then they reposted it this morning. That can't be a good sign.
That's not necessarily a bad sign. As a public institution, when we extend our deadlines, it isn't necessarily that we don't have candidates that we like, it's more so that we feel like we need to receive a broader pool of candidates for purposes of perception. If an audit or review board would see a small pool of candidates for an open position, they could easily ask why we didn't post on more job boards. We post on plenty and on a wide variety of job boards but they could easily find more places that we could post positions.

I've had it with these motherf'in snakes in this motherf'in tree
giphy.gif
While looking for this GIF, somehow I found out there was such a thing as flying snakes. I thought to myself, "They must live in some of those places that I'd never want to visit." But, nooooo, they live in places like Southern Thailand, Singapore and Malaysia. All places that I've heard good things about and would like to visit someday.

By the way, never travel with me to Thailand. I'll be singing the soundtrack from The King and I and One Night in Bangkok the whole 22 hour flight over.
