When I was in NW IA, the restaurant at that location was called Bakers Court (but it closed before I was last in the area in 2007) I wonder when this restaurant started up.

2015 according to the sign. Won best burger in Iowa of 2017 if I remember right.

Welp, biking was harder today, firm breeze from the SE to make the 1st half a lot of single digit riding. Blew the shift on the big hill, lost momentum still made it up with out walking so I'll count it as a success. Cut 4 miles off because of winds that lead to a mile of gravel:(. Better to pay attention for a mile than to put up with an extra 2 miles of headwinds.

Douchey drivers 0, other bikers 1.

Going to miss MC ride tonight it's my Dad's B-day so supper with the family tonight.

Boxster please keep me informed of bike ride if it is an afternoon I can probably attend. How far would it be and what would the pace be?

If we do the gravel to Excelsior it would be on a Sunday afternoon, probably start at 1 or 1:30 from Hopkins. Because gravel it will be slow, like 12 or 13 mph, more a leisure route than paved trail or road conducive to a better pace. Pretty ride, lots of shade and halfway at Lake Minnetonka. Also, since only 10 miles out to the lake, it could be ridden with hybrids, mountain bikes, anything....so not really a road bike exclusive thingy.

An afternoon in the life of a historian:

I was prepping an answer for a possible question. It led me to one thing, to another, and somehow Wikipedia, which led to another Wiki entry, because I thought, "Huh, they have an entry on The Slave's Friend? That's an abolitionist magazine for children which ran from 1836-1839 that I used heavily.

That Wiki was totally based off an old, short article I read years ago, but listed tons of publication #s.
Reread that article for those #s, since I hadn't thought of that for a while. Author cited an old, rare book I had discovered minutes before in something else.

Found that book. Looked there would be no source cited, and then I found the citation, and then found gold.

I just learned a whole lot. Some of it I'm not sure I understand just yet, but I think I walked into another weird abolitionist contradiction, because they just didn't know how to do things any other way. This is what we historians do.

What's been everyone's experience Texas A&M graduates? We just started a new project in Houston and there are two on the job. One has been working for less than a year and seems to think he knows everything (or the day after you explain something to him will present himself as an expert), the other is a 10 yr guy and is basically an arrogant prick who thinks he's an expert and everyone should be doing it his way.

Are they all this way? My sample size is pretty small, but just wondering if there was a mandatory class they all have to take in order to get that ring.

So, apparently the mayor of Washington has a almost man bun/ponytail.

Had a flat on the truck right as we were doing our scheduled stop and check. Pretty big bullet dodged. Drove from North Liberty in the rain. Dads tractor didnt want to start, switched out plugs and runs great. Hopefully that are all the breakdowns we have this year.

So my girlfriend lives in Baltimore, and just got into John Hopkins for education which is apparently a big deal. I'm thinking about sending flowers, ladies of RTT any suggestions? I'm also considering sending her a "New baby" arrangement at work, because I think it'd be funny.

Well, since NWICY biked I had to go for a suppertime ride too. Didn't feel good today so speed/distance was not up to par but it's the weekend so lake sights were good. ;)

Mile 2.5: Guys walking with tropical birds. One big green macaw and two white cockatoos. Kinda cool. Seen these dudes before.

Mile 8: The hammock hippies. Hammock hippies everywhere at south beach of Lake Calhoun.

Mile 8.5: Big catalpa tree covered with big white blooms. Purdy to use a CG term.

Mile 9: Giganto adirondack "share chair." One of five in different colors.

Mile 10.5: Vintage gray Jaguar XKE convertible.

first of all, big congrats to your GF!

what kind of colors does she like? Ever see her go "oooo those are pretty" at flowers before? Comfy enough with her mom/sister/friend to ask?

Otherwise something seasonal and cheerful. Maybe Gerbera daisies? Personally, I've never been sad to get roses, but those are my fave.

She's pretty like "fall" aesthetic or so she's said. Her sister and Mom are too much drama to deal with, we get along but it's like a 45 minute thing every time.

Go for bright, vibrant colors then, not pale pastels or white. Like this -

I've officially watched too much Dateline and murder mystery shows. Friday night one of my best friends calls me while she is driving home from the grocery store. She gets home and says she will call me back after she unloads. She doesn't call back.

Fast forward 20 hours and she sends me a text that she's sorry that her husband wanted to talk. Tells me they were arguing and things are stressful.

An hour later she texts me again to meet her at a bar that's about 10 minutes west of me that's kind of secluded by the lake. She lives about 45 minutes east of me so I thought it strange she would be there. We also haven't been to a bar together in 10 years when we were both in college. She keeps texting me to hurry up and get out bc she wanted to see me. "don't pay the cover" and "just meet them back behind the bar". Any time I've been to this particular bar there hasn't been too many people there and has never been a cover. It all seemed strange and I wasn't sure I was even talking to her.

I finally got close to the bar halfway expecting that I was lured out there to get murdered and buried where nobody would find me. Pulled in and there are a ton of cars. Nobody at the bar, but a band will be performing behind the building. I find my friend and it's apparent she's had a few. I guess her and her friend had been to a wine tasting and then came out to listen to her friend's dad's band. I am relieved I will not be killed tonight.

TL;DR Version
-friend and her husband have been arguing
- don't hear back from her for almost 24 hours after she said would call me back
-receive some out of character text messages and am invited to meet her at a suspicious location
-beginning to think my friend has been murdered by her husband and is luring me out to murder me
-turns out my friend is just drunk and I haven't been on the receiving end of drunk messages in a while.

Sidenote
Her husband and I get along well and hangout together without my friend being there. My Dateline background got the best of me.

Just channel flipped into one of the public TV donation marathon thingies. Tonight it's old guys from the British Invasion of the 1960's reliving their moment in the sun by replaying these hits from the mid-1960's. It's kind pathetic and sad to see Herman's Hermits still playing something they recorded 50 years ago. These old geezers should take a clue from Ricky Nelson's Garden Party.

Someone opened up a closet door and out stepped Johnny B. Goode
Playing guitar like a-ringin' a bell and lookin' like he should
If you gotta play at garden parties, I wish you a lotta luck
But if memories were all I sang, I rather drive a truck

Damn Rabbuk, not so sure she'll think the baby arrangement is great, but she's your girlfriend so you know her. If John Hopkins education is like it's medical sounds pretty prestigious/cool. Congrats to her.

its apparently the #1 masters program for education in the country? or top 5 or someshit. She would not be amused, because few places are more gossipy than a school.

Pretty darn good supper tonight, did a couple of marinated pork loins on the grill. pulled them at 135/140 degrees. Threw them in a cake pan and foiled them while getting the rest of supper ready and waiting for people to arrive. Pork loin, wilted lettuce, watermelon, cantaloupe, and homemade chocolate cake for dessert. All of us kids made it home so I'm pretty sure my Dad had a good B-day, seems like he enjoyed it anyway.
