Pretty much the same here. I have a few other programs for metadata management, etc., but that's more for the commercial side. The setup Angie noted would work perfectly!

One thing I plan to start doing more is using the keywords in Lightroom, since you can later search on them. It'll make it easier to find things.

Usually works for tags for online photo sites too. As a hobbiest may not be as important, but still neat to see an image of yours pop up on searches :)

If anyone has questions on what software or how to do something just let me know.

I wanted to let everyone know of a neat photo opportunity.

Each year Scott Kelby Hosts a Worldwide Photowalk. This is a chance for every skill set of photographer to go out on the same exact day and shoot photos.

This year it's Oct. 3 - unfortunately there is a Kansas football game that day. But if you're in the area and are interested check out the website and find your local group - or start one of your own!

I'm great friends with the individual who usually does Des Moines, and can compliment enough of how helpful everyone is. This is where I started my journey, so I encourage everyone to do the same.

#KoreanWarMemorial. Always great to remember 'the forgotten war' and I LOVE shooting and visiting this memorial in DC at night. I actually recommend it to everybody I talk to!

Oh Wichita, my temporary home. At least you look good at times in black and white...

I like both photos, but I really like the use of B&W on this one. It makes the pavement pop, the lines are sharper, etc.

I took my baby to Reiman Gardens this past Wednesday to get some photos of him, and took these images. I don't know that they're good or anything, but the lighting that day was very strong and I tried to capture it a little.

Very nice. Hang that one on the wall.
How did you set up that shot?

That's really kind of you!

It was actually just a fluke last night. My husband got me some flowers for our 10th anniversary yesterday. White daisies, red roses, pink carnations. I took them outside still in their vase, and set them down in the sunlight.

ISO - 400
Focal length - 50mm
Not sure of shutter speed - can check when I get home and back in Lightroom

I just handheld super-close to the flower, since I have a crappy tripod that doesn't have the free-arranged legs, they've got the little arm things between them. It was pretty on-the-spot. ;)

Have you taken anything new lately?

Is that your new 50mm lenses?
No, I haven't taken much lately. Most of my flower shots were taken at my old house. I've still not had a chance to do much landscaping at the new house. I've found it hard to just say, "Saturday I'm going to go to a park and shoot flowers.". In general I found that you need some specific conditions outside to make it work well.
I guess there is always next summer.

I've been pacing myself before getting my new lens, so this is just my old 18-55mm kit lens. I really am having trouble deciding what to buy first!

It's really hard, isn't it? I try and hit Reiman Gardens, but it has to be sunny, I'd prefer it not be unbearably hot, humidity isn't good on the camera, etc., etc. And weekend fill up, etc. I totally understand!

Go get a new 50mm 1.8 for $125. You don't regret it.
I actually prefer overcast days with no wind. Full sun is a bit harsh and can wash out features. As I said before, most of my flower pics were taken in my own yard, so if the conditions were just right I could just take 15 minutes and shoot a bunch.
You don't have to spend a ton to get a nice tripod either. I think I spent about 30 on a dolica with independent legs and a ball head. Keep an eye on Slockdeals.net for one.

I took these in the Smoky Mountains in Tennessee with my Samsung Galaxy Note 4. The lighting isn't the best because it was cloudy but I thought they were pretty good considering I took them with my phone.

Those are crystal-clear and sharp! Did you have an app or anything on your phone that would adjust similar to an F-stop or anything? The one with the bees is remarkable.

Thanks! The standard camera app itself has quite a bit of options, I haven't really had the chance to mess around with them a whole lot. Looks like you can change the ISO and the exposure value, but other than that I'm not sure. When I took these pictures I was using the "selective focus" mode, it basically lets you choose what you want to focus on in the picture. So in the case of the bees I had the option to focus on the bees or the flowers in the background after I took the picture.

That's really awesome. That's a remarkable series of photos from a phone - great job!! I don't know why, but insect photography fascinates me.

Thank you! I have always liked photography but I could never get myself to buy an expensive camera. It's good to know my phone is a viable option!
