this is correct. i also think the rule helps balance out the LOI/transfer restrictions that dont apply to coaches.
He branded the program on it and now that its conveniently become an integral part of college hoops ISU recruits jucos like Kentucky recruits burger boys Transfer U is a good thing. A top 5 proven transfer with 1 year of eligibility should come every season Fred will be picking from multiple guys who drop close to 20 and have some height.
Being branded and known for transfers and three pointers is fine these guys like shooting 3s and also like transferring.
I agree. Look at Frank Haith at Missouri. He has recruited just as many transfers as Fred and has failed miserably and is now pulling a McDermott to get out.

1) Once a student graduates, he should be allowed to pursue a graduate degree at any institution that he chooses.
2) Most students graduate in 4 years, not 3, so that means he redshirted. He will only have one year left to play the final year.
Basically this rule says that a player cannot transfer if they don't have a redshirt year left UNLESS they complete a degree. If you get rid of this rule, then you are now adding a disincentive for student-athletes to get a degree. And anything that takes away an incentive to get a degree does not make sense.

He is such a quagmire for me. I hear him at the press conferences, and almost every time he gets a short laugh and an exasperated response from Rhoads or Hoiberg because his questions are ridiculous, far fetched, or just stupid. I see articles from him where I can't believe how anti-ISU he seems, and then he writes stuff like this from time to time. He is such a weird person... Hearing his voice, and the way he asks his questions, (which mind you, he tries to direct people to say what he wants SO OFTEN!!!!) I can't believe he can write 400 words coherently.
Thats the thing, even if it isnt necessarily the most fair thing competitively (it encourages top players from lower-end schools to leave to higher end schools right when theyre at their peak level) as far as advancing the mission of student athletes, i have zero problem with throwing a reward out to those players who complete the most important mission of a student athlete, graduating, even if the graduate degree is just an excuse to play another year. Once theyve graduated i think goal #1 has really been met. Its one of the few things that is very student-focused, and it really should remain.
I think you're right when it comes to underclassmen and juco transfers, they are always going to be a crap shoot but the graduate transfers are a different thing. That's what I think the "new era" in college bball is more about. A guy who has graduated and wants to transfer is more likely to come in with his head on his shoulders. I think that can be replicated with some consistency. It's a much safer transfer situation than having a guy who has to sit out a year.
I don't get the love for this article. It doesn't tell Cyclone fans anything we didn't already know, and it's not very well written.
