Iowa 5th ahead of Clemson that’s complete bull …. They aren’t a 5th rated team

If ISU is not worthy of being ranked then iowa should be nowhere near the top 10.
Has to be remembered that these early rankings are all based on early context. They can’t make assumptions about who is good and who isn’t yet.

Hey, it’s good news for us though. If we get things moving we won’t be far away from our goals.

Probably a Top 10 team, not Top 5, but they deserve their ranking for now, they have the most impressive resume in college football the first 2 weeks.

Right? Obviously if teams shut down the run their offense will have a tough time, as evidenced on Saturday. Thus far their defense has shown up and they may have the best group of special teams in all of football. Their punter will probably have a 20 year NFL career and the kicker drilled that 51 yarder (coverage was also outstanding).

Who do you argue is ahead of them based on schedules thus far? Tamu (who was overrated to beging with)? The other SEC teams with the typical early season second rate schedules? Thus far Oregon, Iowa, and Georgia have had the most impressive victories in college football. No surprise they have been justly rewarded.

My guess is we should be 12 after yesterday. Florida and UCLA lost in front of us, so I think notre dame moves to 11 and us right behind them and Florida right behind us.

The problem is this: The AP poll is supposed to be a ranking of playing strength, not a ranking of accomplishment.

If Team A beats three ranked teams and Team B beats the bottom three, but Team B is the stronger team, then Team B is supposed to be ranked ahead of Team A despite Team A's clearly stronger resume. In other words, the AP poll is supposed to predict the future, not judge the past. Accomplishments provide evidence that inform this judgment, but they aren't the whole story. So I am very hesitant to use the language of "deserve their ranking for now." Either they are correctly ranked now or they aren't. Nevertheless, I know what you mean: Given all the unknowns at this point, their accomplishments probably outweigh the other factors that go into estimating playing strength.

Realistically Florida shouldn’t drop and possibly move up. On the flip side Notre Dame (yes they are winning, which is what matters) would drop if I were ranking them. They have beaten absolutely nobody and Toledo, who should have won that game against them, got pummeled by winless Colorado State. Florida State gave them everything they wanted too and are 0-3 with back to back horrible losses.

The AP (and Coaches) Polls mean whatever the voters think it means. The analytics based rankings are supposed to estimate relative strength.
