Re: Rashad Vaughn

Depends on the 4 year. If I had my choice between say Elijah Johnson for 4 years or Ben MacLemore, I choose Ben 10 of 10 times.

Elijah Johnson was awesome...for 1 game.

Re: Rashad Vaughn

Would you rather have a four year and done?

Seriously, I can't come up with that many players in today's CBB that I would want more at ISU than a McDermott clone as a freshman. 4 year starter and 20+ ppg scorer? Sign me up. Although I feel close to that with Niang for the same reason.

Hold on - does his dad come with him?

I thought we do in Niang. And for the record, McDermott would not be getting 20+ a game in the B12

Re: Rashad Vaughn

I'm really looking forward to seeing how much Niang improves his sophomore year. He and Ejim really seemed to click towards the end of last season.

What about 4 years of McDermott vs. 1 year of MacLemore? Because I'm taking McDermott every day of the week.

A Vaughn commit, and I would have to be sedated to counteract the Kool Aid that would be rushing through my veins.

Agreed. I might start 3 or more national title threads myself. Right after I buy my final four tickets that is

How about 4 years of McDermott vs. 1 year of Carmelo Anthony? McDermott gets you solid play for 4 years and there is nothing wrong with that but the right 1 and done gets you deep NCAA runs and maybe a national championship.

Re: Rashad Vaughn

If Vaughn makes us a legitimate threat in the Big 12 and National scene, hypothetically with other pieces in place, it's not really a discussion. You go for the 1 year guy. Say Niang is our 4 year guy that is highly productive. Then you have the best of both worlds colliding if Vaughn does commit. Thomas shooting. Morris developing into a 1st or 2nd team Big 12 point. Vaughn could really change the scenery in Ames. I hope it happens because it could be a real catapult. Alot of hypotheticals in the entire discussion but it's not far fetched.

Re: Rashad Vaughn

4 years of McDermott with MVC stats? Or 4 years of what he would likely produce in the B12?

Good point, but to be fair a quick count of games vs. major conference teams I get McDermott averaging 28 ppg. This was vs. Wisc, Neb, Cal, Cinc, Duke, AZst. Not all great teams but not all B12 teams are great either.

I'm not sure about my answer. Can we choose where we keep Elijah for the four years? Like, say, in a small cell with occasional visits from an experienced interrogator?

The other part of the equation is that in my opinion if you get McDermott for 4 years you also have his dad as your coach. I truly believe if he wasn't playing for his dad, he would already be playing for pay.

That changes the calculus quite a bit.

There is no "maybe" in this argument. Carmelo did win a national championship during his one year at Syracuse.

You'll always take a one-and-done and a national title over a four year guy who doesn't get you into the Sweet 16.
