Re: Rashad Vaughn

There is no "maybe" in this argument. Carmelo did win a national championship during his one year at Syracuse.

You'll always take a one-and-done and a national title over a four year guy who doesn't get you into the Sweet 16.

He won it with those players. No guarantee that he'd win with who we have. I'd still take him and take my chances especially now with even less talent in college basketball.

Give me a national title and I don't care if we don't make it out of the first round for the next ten years

Re: Rashad Vaughn

You're ******** if you don't want a player because he's too good. I'll take a one and done without hesitation.

Re: Rashad Vaughn

Vaughn may be a fine player and and a first round pick (or not), but may very well not be a program-changing recruit.

Just GETTING Vaughan would be a program-changer, before he even plays a game. I'd argue that having a guy like Vaughan considering us against elite programs like UNC is almost program-changing in itself. This is big time.

You need more than one guy to be a program changer.

The same thing was said when Brackins and White committed. It helps build a program, but you can't rely on a single guy to change a program.

With that said, here's to having him at ISU.

Program changer is kind of a relative term. We probably wouldn't make the tournament without White. Given how long it had been since we made the tournament, and the fact that Fred needed validation as a HC, I would call White a program changer IMO.

Re: Rashad Vaughn

Vaughn gets doubled and you have serious advantages for the already talented players around him. I think you only need one remarkable player as long as the other four gel.

White was a program changer. And "just one guy" is a disrespect to the solid recruiting classes we've got coming in.

I'm pretty sure that we are assuming that other good players will be joining him.

"Program changer" is probably an overstatement, but another high profile recruitment competition with UNC does help put us more brightly on the radar of other HS coaches, players, and transfers. We are getting much more attention now than the last time (with Barnes).

I agree one player doesn't make a team.
However this program has a solid foundation in place, especially in 2014. We aren't talking about making a jump from NIT team to NCAA Championship game. We are talking about a program that is NCAA ready and making the jump from the round of 32 to the Final Four. Vaughn would be able to do that.
Also getting a top national player like Vaughn, even if he is one and done, will make other Top 10 players take notice of CFH and ISU going forward in recruiting.

White's commitment was the catalyst for other transfers to commit and basically changed the identity of the ISU program from being a bottom feeder in the B12 to a place where talented transfers can come and thrive. He ushered in the change from a .500 level team to a team expected to make it's 3rd straight tournament appearance by many, which I believe makes him the definition of a program changer.

Re: Rashad Vaughn

No doubt White was a program changer. He took us from bad to good. And he's a program changer because the program has sustained the level of success he left us at. The next program changer will take us higher- from good to very good. It could be another guy like Royce White. Perhaps it's Rashad Vaughn.

I suppose I agree with this. Although Final Four talk may be a little pre-mature...

If Royce White stayed last year we probably went real far. That one guy would have been a program changer because the rest of the team was already in place.
