Re: Rashad Vaughn

Re: Rashad Vaughn

My opinion is that RV was borderline to Minny when they still had Tubby. Once he was fired, I think the ship sailed. Just my thoughts based on some interviews I saw around that time.

However, to play devil's advocate a little, I will say I would be pretty ticked off at the Star if I was Minnesota fans. For argument's sake, let's just assume Minny was still in the running. Then the local paper runs that and pushes RV away.
I know if the Rag did something like that I would be pretty upset.

The worst part about all this is that I wouldn't expect RV to commit until the Spring Signing Day, April 16, 2014. We still have 4 months of this folks! Hang tight!

Be quiet. The Rag does stuff like that all the time.

2. Vaughn Recruitment Drawing Scrutiny
Five-star senior shooting guard Rashad Vaughn is one of three remaining Top 100 prospects in the class of 2014. The No. 2 shooting guard in the country and No. 13 prospect overall recently left his home state of Minnesota to play his senior season at basketball powerhouse Findlay Prep (NV). Now his hometown newspaper, the Star Tribune, is questioning the role of Vaughn’s mentor, Pete Kaffey. As noted in the article, Kaffey, 27, began a mentoring role when Vaughn was a fifth-grader. Last year, Kaffey spent the season as an assistant coach at Vaughn’s high school, Robbinsdale Cooper (MN) High and also accompanied Vaughn on various unofficial visits to colleges and AAU tournaments and camps throughout the summer. When he decided to transfer he chose Findlay Prep, a program well known “as a pipeline for NBA talent” and also a school that happened to have an assistant coaching position waiting for Kaffey. While there are no allegations of wrongdoing at this time, it will be interesting to see where the 6’5” scorer lands and if Kaffey ends up working in some capacity on the college staff. Right now Vaughn is expected to narrow his college list down to five finalists which will include UNLV and Iowa State along with possibly UNC, Kentucky, Minnesota or Kansas.

There will only be "wrong doing" if RV commits to ISU. Considering Kansas among many other programs have used the tactic and never even been questioned about it, it won't matter.

Re: Rashad Vaughn

I have a hard time believing that Fred would offer the Director Basketball Ops position to Kaffey. And i'm certain nobody in the ISU administration will go for a 27 year old with a rap sheet that includes pistol whipping. So if that's the quid pro quo, then ISU is out.

Since ISU is still in, my guess is that the Kaffey employment bus is terminating at Findlay Prep.

Re: Rashad Vaughn

Kaffey might have got hired at this private "high school" with his record. But he is not getting hired at any university- not ISU, not UNLV, not Kentucky with those convictions. The Kaffey issue is going to be a complete non issue, IMO.

Some under the table dealings may well take place. But no way is he getting hired at any university.

Well it was deffered and removed from his record which is why he doesnt think he was convicted (even though he pled guilty) people don't get that even if not on your record you still are supposed to answer the conviction question honestly.

This. Guys this is not similar to other shady hirings just to get a recruit. This Kaffey is not anything close to D1 material anything. This isn't Frank Martin, and he actually turned out to be a helluva coach.

If he does get hired, then red flags should be going off everywhere, because he has zero qualifications for anything, and is a felon.

IMO, shouldn't even be worth a discussion on this board. Let minny deal with it. No point to talk negatively about some guy that none of us knows personally, and that has been a positive role model and mentor of one of ISU's top recruits.
