Re: Rashad Vaughn - Announcing Tuesday

I'm just glad we won that game on Monday. As bad as this week has been, I think it could of been even worse had OSU won. Talk about a double punch to the nuts.

Re: Rashad Vaughn - Announcing Tuesday

So the 1-year presence of Chris Allen, Deandre Kane, Royce White, Jake Anderson, and Will Clyburn would have better served with unproven 4-year players where the talent needed developed?

i don't know, carmelo anthony worked out pretty well in his one yaer in college. so did anthony davis. 4 years from any player doesn't equate to a national title. of course some 4 year players have won multiple titles. but not many.
I'm not denying the benefit of the One and Done's. I'm looking at it more as a value vs resources spent. The difference between the one year transfers and high school prospects is the amount of time, energy, and money spent trying to recruit them. Fred had been after RV since 9th grade???

The blue bloods can afford to spend all their resources on 1& dones because they have the players to come in and replace them after they leave.

If schools like ISU miss our on players like RV there goes all that time that could have been used on 4 year prospect like a Niang. If we do get RV and he's gone after 1 year then what.

Re: Rashad Vaughn - Announcing Tuesday

It surprises me that anyone on CF thinks there is a good chance he's coming here. To believe that, I would have to think you either: A) have not followed the signs since Tuesday or B) you believe RV is purposely giving or hinting false info to those around him and on twitter. Which I doubt. Our chances are <15% IMO.

Nothing has changed since Tuesday, has it? Vaughn has said virtually nothing and nobody else seems to have any good inside information. What am I missing? The recruiting guy on a website changing his pick?

Then we use his scholarship on another athlete the next year? Seems like the obvious answer to me. I'm sure Fred's got backup plans in case Vaughn chooses to go elsewhere (as he will). That Marvin Clark guy kind of showed up out of nowhere, so I'm sure there are probably others nobody has the scoop on yet as well.

Once again, people hanging on every silly tweet, rumor or report and running off the ledge with it.

@Jermcon: Told someone affiliated with the Pilots that I think Vaughn's going to UNLV and the replied, "I think you're 200% right." I like those odds.

This guy works with Ballislife

I don't really see a downside, we basically have a talent farm in our backyard that we can pick and chose from as we wish with Indian Hills plus I think it should be obvious that any impact 5th year is going to have ISU on their radar. We are in a pretty unique and awesome position.

Re: Rashad Vaughn - Announcing Tuesday

I'm 1000% ok if he does not come. That doesn't mean i wouldn't love to have him.

its HIS decision on what boat he wants to be on. Sure...he can accomplish everything he wants at either school. UNLV is not a better program than iowa state....it's just not. We can go over and over all the intangibles we have over UNLV....it makes no difference.

If we don't get him...I'm not thanking him for considering us....I'm thanking CFH and all his assistants. It's THOSE people who spent nights away from their family, many many nights on the phone, writing letters, etc pursuing rashad. I thank them for their effort...and even if we miss....by god I love it that we stick our nose right in there with the big boys.

Having said that....rashad......get your arse to Ames and win us a national title kid.

I cant wait until this drama is over. ISU is on a come up with or without Vaughn. Ill be happy when this thread finally comes to an end. No matter the outcome. I think we all know by now that Fred will keep talent coming in. We arent relying on one highly ranked kid.

What has been bad about this week? We won a great game and found out we are FINALLY going to find out if RV is going to come here. The way people talk on here, I must be naive in not seeing what has happened to hurt our chances with RV this week.

I agree. Nothing bad at all. Worst case scenario is that we get an answer we don't want earlier than expected which gives the staff more time to reel in other targets.

You're right that nothing "bad" has happened but just the general vibe around his decision hasn't been good. People have been at each others throat the past couple days, saying stupid things. Just think it would of been worse had w lost that game and had people even more grumpy.

Re: Rashad Vaughn - Announcing Tuesday

Pretty sure anyone would favorite a tweet like that if it was about them.

May be right, but I haven't seen a retweet from RV about anything about ISU recently at all, considering the many positive tweets out there about our season, our coach, our big win at OkieSt, or anything. Who knows if he's even been following us much. I've often heard the saying how recruiting can change overnight. That's what hurts here. You can find several articles that made it sound like we've been the leader since the fall, and now we're not. Stinks, but what doesn't about recruiting.

Re: Rashad Vaughn - Announcing Tuesday

Difference between Barnes and Vaughn is that then we were desperate to be relevant again and Barnes could have done that. We were #7 this yr. I'll be upset if we don't get Vaughn but its not the end of the world. We are in a better place now and he doesn't make or break next year now. We have a much higher ceiling with him, but without him we'll be just fine. Even with the blue chippers UNLV could still suck cuz their coach is terrible.
