Re: Rashad Vaughn - Announcing Tuesday

https://twitter.com/ShowtimeMr/following

Unfortunately he did. He's currently following 491 people. I simply went to the list of those he's following and "Ctrl-F"'d both "Coach", "Hoiberg", and "Matt". I get a whole lot of other coaches when I search "Coach", Paige Hoiberg when I search "Hoiberg", and Matt Thomas when I search "Matt". He is no longer following Fred or Matt.

Does that make me pathetic? Perhaps. But I blame it on a slow overnight shift.

Your post made me curious as to whether there might have been a missed connection between your search and his list of 'following,' because people can get worked up about that sort of thing, so I read through the whole list.

No Hoiberg or Matt A on the list.

We obviously need to unfollow him. Don't tweet at him, just unfollow.

Re: Rashad Vaughn - Announcing Tuesday

I don't want to be the bearer of bad news, but I just noticed Rashad has unfollowed both Fred Hoiberg and Matt A on twitter. He was following them last Tuesday when I checked.

Not exciting news, but he could have unfollowed them for reasons other than the worst case scenario. Doesn't he still follow Fred's wife and current ISU players?

If true, that cannot be a good thing. He follows other coaches, but not Hoiberg?

I would love to have Vaughn, even if it is for only one year, but as some others have said on here, I'd MUCH rather have 4 years of someone like Melvin Ejim or Georges Niang than one year of Vaughn.

So if Fred can go out and replace Vaughn with a really good 4 year player, it's not that much of a loss IMO.

Yeah, players of this caliber just do not come to Ames. We should probably consider it a victory that we even made his final list.

I've already convinced myself that it will now just be a pleasant surprise if he does come here, but I'm fully expecting he won't. I've moved on.

With that being said, we have two open schollies for next year. So who do you think we'll get?

Re: Rashad Vaughn - Announcing Tuesday

I'm trying to fuel my pessimism in preparation for Tuesday.

Vaughn's tweet tonight was in reference to someone that he trusted. He had a meal with them recently where he shared the news about his upcoming commitment to UNLV. This so-called "friend" turned around and leaked the news to Jerry Meyer of 247 Sports. Vaughn just got so angry with this guy that he had to send the tweet.

That's my theory anyway to keep my expectations as low as possible for Tuesday.

Your theory is plausible and was somewhat my initial thought, too, but I have one issue with the leak to Jerry Meyer part of it. Meyer responded to someone on Twitter the other day saying his source is not from the Vaughn camp; I have yet to hear how close his source is to the Vaughn camp. Also, in your scenario, what is the motive of the leaker? What could he/she get out of leaking info to Jerry Meyer?

It is very possible Meyer is getting info indirectly from a leaker, but how far down the line the game of Telephone goes before he hears it is unknown.

Re: Rashad Vaughn - Announcing Tuesday

Guessing RV has already had already finalized his decision, however watching yesterday's game kept me thinking who wouldn't want to play with teammates like that who go out of their way to feed the hot man. ME could of easily ended up with low 30s and the rest of the team would of gotten closer to their regular outputs but it looked liked every member of the squad wanted to see how many points they could help Melvin get.

I agree. Many times, these one and done super star guys, don't help a team win games. Sure, if you're Kentucky or Kansas and literally have 4 or 5 "Rashad Vaughn's" on your team, you are going to win a lot of games, but if you're Iowa State and you only have one of them and you insert them on a team full of guys that already have great team chemistry, it can actually make you worse IMO.

Not saying I won't be overjoyed if we can land Vaughn, because I will, but I still don't think it will be the end of the world if we don't. If we get Vaughn, he's going to expect the offense to run through him, and he will want to average over 20 pts a game so he can be a one and done guy. It's going to be all about him most likely. I'm just saying that sometimes that isn't the most healthy thing for good team basketball.

Case in point, look at Kane this year. To start the year, he was averaging nearly as many rebounds and assists as he was points, and we were really good. Then he had a couple really big point outbursts, including one 30 point game, and he got national recognition, and all of the sudden he was not the same "Kane" anymore and he was trying to score 30+ pts every game by just forcing horrible shots.

He's now back to playing more like he was earlier in the season, and it's helping the team tremendously. Just look at all his alley oops to Ejim yesterday. He was a great team player yesterday.

Ejim and the entire UNLV team would have went to OT yesterday. I like Ejim since he didn't even play 40. Why would anyone want to go to UNLV?

Re: Rashad Vaughn - Announcing Tuesday

If all of our speculation is true, that it was UNLV all along, then why string Hoiberg and Matt along all this time? How much money did they spend traveling down there, and the time investment. I know that is how the recruiting game is played, but it doesn't make it right, it is not ethical. Frankly, I don't believe he has been undecided all this time, I think this has been in the bag for months. Now if I am wrong and the kid truly has been struggling trying to decide and this was a straight up battle between the schools until the end, then I take back what I said.
