Re-Indexing Annual Giving Levels

My guess is the plan will be to add more levels at the top, and more perks to go along with those new levels. I assume that there are a fair number of the $12,500 donors that are donating much more than $12,500. Seems as though those folks should get more perks.

I will continue to donate what I can at whatever level it takes to get a parking pass for football. Currently I donate more than my parking pass or my seat requires, and my wife, kids, and I are very happy with that.

1000 donors donating $500 each is $500,000. It's not much of a giveaway for the AD to encourage people to donate at the $20,000 level if only 100 of them bring in $2,000,000 and 10 at the $50,000 level bring in the same $500,000 as all those $500 donors.

Give people a chance to become donors at lots of levels just as in the past, but give people good reason to consider giving more.

I assume that number is getting smaller but do you know how many of those there were and/or are now? Are those tickets for the original buyers only or can they be passed to family members?

My understanding that in 1974-75.....It was just for the life of the donor and could not be passed on to family members but some of those great seats only went for 300/500/1000 dollars for a lifetime....Great investment I would say but then Earle Bruce moved on and Donnie Duncan ran the program into the ground ....Poor Donnie even applied for the Wichita State job and got turned DOWN......LOL...can you believe it.

I’m still not sure what to think about all of this. Part of me thinks it will be good (but only if a reseating happens). But also I think they need to start some sort of tracking of actually showing up to getting points. If you miss > 50% of the games , you lose your seats the next year. It’s crazy how many empty seats there are for all sports.

Also, let’s all be honest the amount of money thrown around on college sports is WAY out of hand. There are a lot better ways a person/university should spend that kind of money.

I like your idea of tracking actually showing up ...now myself I started going to every game in 1975 thru Danny Mac's last game with KU...I missed four home games in that time period and of course we went to Mizzou and Kansas and KState road games every year we played at those places....also went to Oklahoma and that was a 59-14 disaster but we enjoyed the trip anyway....GO Cyclones

In JTS for some people that cannot be done. If a fan gave to build the stadium they get their seat for life. Now many of those people are getting older and giving them up, those that want to keep their seats get to. They tried to move these people once and lost that battle.

This was once true but I'm not sure it still is. At some point (early to mid-1990s IIRC), people who had seats under that deal had to begin donating at the appropriate level in order to keep them. My old man was among them, and his seats aren't great - so if he had to pony up, I'm assuming those with better seats had to as well, but I don't know that for a fact.

One thing they probably need to be careful of is to not price out younger donors. The money is coming from my parents at this point but we donate $500 to get paved parking for football as my parents struggle walking to far. I at this point plan on continuing that donation once my sister graduates and they stop coming to the games. If the amount goes up to much I might just stop donating and stick with my cheap seats. I think the key will be more donation levels rather than really raising them a lot.

At one point wasn't there a program for new grads (maybe up to 3-4 years after graduation) where they got a break on their donation level?

This makes sense given the economic reality of the time. We'll all be better informed when more concrete proposals are released. It still is hard for those of us with young families, but I understand. There's benefits and drawbacks with every hard choice in life.

We need our own T. Boone Pickens;-) That would help. Perfect scenario: one with T. Boone's willingness to donate freely at those massive amounts, but without the expectation of control / pulling the strings. A Cyclone can dream, can't he!;-)

Haven't heard anything from JP on this topic...He promised details in early February, 2020. Maybe the timing is not good? Maybe too busy tweeting?

Probably not a good time to ask for more money.

From the letter:
"Specific details regarding future Cyclone Club giving levels and benefits will be communicated in the spring of 2020..."

Maybe someone is too busy posting on CF to get his facts straight.

From the OP:
"In a letter received today, JP let us know that to achieve the annual level of funding required for the future, re-indexing of Cyclone Club annual giving levels will happen in January 2021."

I would guess they will go thru renewals for 2020, then announce changes for 2021 AFTER the 2020 renewals are done. That would reduce confusion.

This was part of the renewal email. I wonder if it won't increase some donations. -

Parking Selection Guidelines

For lots A1, A2, A3, A4, B3, B4, B5, B6, C1/C2, C3, C4, C5, C6, G6, G7, RVD1, RVD2, RVD3, RVD4, RVS8

*Donation requirements are for guidance only and are always subject to availability

*New or recent donors typically need to be one donor level higher than the minimum requirement for a desired parking lot

*Donor rankings are always available by logging into your account, click on Account Settings in the upper right corner, then click on Manage My Personal Profile. Donor rankings are updated every Monday throughout the year.

*Donors will select their parking lot online in late April/early May, appointment times are assigned by donor level and priority points. All donors seeking parking in the lots listed above must complete this process.

Car Parking

*Car parking pass must be purchased prior to March 31 deadline for consideration. Any passes purchased after this date will receive placement in the best available lot remaining after all parking selections have been completed.

*In 2019:

-Lot A4, B6, C6: Passes went to donors ranked in the top 50% of Captains ($2,500) level and higher by priority points

-Lot A3, B5, C5: Passes went to donors ranked in the top 50% of Gold ($1,000) level and higher by priority points

-Lot A2, B4, C4: Passes went to donors ranked in the top 25% of Cardinal ($500) level and higher by priority points, must be a Gold ($1,000) donor in 2020 to be eligible for these lots

-Lot A1, B3, C3: Passes went to donors ranked in the top 50% of Cardinal ($500) level and higher by priority points

RV Parking

*RV parking pass must be purchased prior to March 31 deadline for consideration. Most years we are unable to accommodate all RV parking requests that we receive.

*If you are switching from a car parking pass to an RV parking pass, make sure this process is completed through our ticket office by March 31 ([email protected] or 515-294-1816); your invoice will need to be adjusted manually.

*In 2019, 75% of all RV parking passes were allocated to Captains ($2,500) donors and above, with that % increasing every year.

*In 2019:
-Lot RVS8: 100% of passes went to Directors ($12,500) donors
-Lot RVD4: Passes went to donors ranked in the top 50% of Captains ($2,500) level and higher by priority points -Lot RVD3: Passes went to donors ranked in the top 10% of Gold ($1,000) level and higher by priority points
-Lot RVD2 & RVD1: Passes went to donors ranked in the top 40% of Gold ($1,000) level and higher by priority points

If you checkout the first post in this thread, maybe that someone is you?

Good luck, JP! I fear we’ll be getting blood from a turnip right now.
