Behind you
Ive thought that ND rather be aligned with ACC all thing equal.

But would they be more open to fully joining BIG had they had a similar deal the last decade as they did with ACC?
I'm sure they'd feign that to the B1G, and I'm sure they'd love to have the same arrangement because then they'd never really have to join in football. I just don't ever see the B1G accepting anything like that because it doesn't have to, and because it would p*ss off the likes of tOSU and Michigan, both of which have equal if not bigger national brands than ND.

Do we know that for sure? Big12 makes what $35M per team now (not counting CFP, bowls) and that's before OuT. I've seen projections keeping that about level, which seems optimistic but still isn't 2x.

What's the latest on Big12 contract expectations next go around?
The projection is somewhere around $40m including CFP and Bowl money, but I'm not sure if that includes tier 3 as each school handles that individually. The projections before USCLA had the Big XII well ahead of the PAC and just ahead of the ACC for the next couple of years. The ACC is expected to get a bigger bump from an expanded CFP and nose ahead of the Big XII in the late 2020s, but not by a huge amount and probably not enough to maintain that lead when/if the Big 10 and SEC take a few of their top schools.

Very few if any schools will ever play on the road against USC and UCLA in the same season. So once every other year or so for most teams won’t be a big deal. It will be a bit of a novelty.

Assuming USC & Cal play each other every year, there will only be 8 teams per year will have to go to Cali. Out of 14. So you will have to make 4 long road trips every 7 years.

Unless you are Ohio St, and then it will be just once every 10 years.

Hmmm. CBS, building/justifying their investment?
Well I dont know if I would go that far, if you look at the list, and who is in the top 10, Michigan is number 1 so they would be propping up ESPN teams if that was their goal.

Caught a glimpse of Stew and Wilner's notes from a lunch meeting in which they brainstormed on the angle of their next story
- But Big 12 was only high because people in Big 12 country are dumb and didn't realize until halftime it was Baylor and Okie State and not Texas v. Oklahoma
- If huge big-time national brands Washington or Stanford had played Oregon, you're looking at tripling the viewership in that case, so just a bad break for the PAC...
- But that is if viewership matters, which it doesn't. It's all about markets, and California is a better market than Kansas
- While losing UCLA and USC hurts, this reduces the PACs in-market beach mileage by about 1/3, which should actually help viewership

I wonder if the Big 12 will keep the 11am CT championship game with BYU, or if more western schools are added.

Right now the schedule is the Pac-12 on Friday night, Big 12 in the early Saturday window, SEC in afternoon, and B1G and ACC at night.

Avoiding competition with the SEC and B1G is smart, and I have no interest in a Friday championship game. So I hope we keep our window. But it’s not a natural timing fit for the western schools.

Stew can write an article about why consolidation is happening, yet can only see this as PAC vs Big 12.

It’s rather simple. It’s not PAC10 vs Big 12.

It is Pac10 vs Big 18 or PAC 10 vs Big 16, or maybe Pac10 vs Big 20.

Do PAC schools gain by joining with Big 12? The PAC doesn’t have the leverage for the other direction, no matter how many stats from USC’s 6 year decline they have.

So will they go with pride and face an even more difficult situation in P2 era, or will they realize getting to P3 setup is the only way to mitigate the fact they are not wanted by BIG

Yep. Addition by subtraction. It really only takes 1 school to flip and the PAC is D.U.N. without even a whisper more about it. Destroying the PAC in any way shape or form sets the Big 12 up very nicely.

Its an old Big 8 team. They bring the entire state of Colorado. 1/3 or more of the conference can drive to their games. 2/3 of the conference has a direct flight to Denver.

Agree they also kill the Pac 10 with their departure

ESPN is the only linear sports content carrier who gives a shi* about that late window now that Fox is using USC and UCLA for that spot.

NBC has SNL in the late spot. They won't bid.

What about other nights? NBC could have Thursday or Friday night games.

Another point everyone keeps making is about all the B1G teams heading west for one road night games every few years. I think you're looking at it backwards. Did USC want to play all their home games at night? I wouldn't think so. Lincoln Riley was pissed about a few 11 am kicks.
