1. We intend to leave, can we get an extension on the notification deadline?
2. Just kidding, we’re staying.
3. Oops, looks like we’re leaving again now.
Not buying it, I don’t think they’re going anywhere.

But didn’t the MWC essentially kick them out when they said they are holding them to their original letter? What other option does SSDSU have at this point then the PAC?

Wouldn't adding more **** teams just lower the per school payout? I doubt those 4 schools make the tv/streaming partners want to pay more.

They’re meeting to discuss SDSU’s status next week I think. I doubt they’ll force them out. But I do think SDSU will have some stiffer restrictions placed on them.

SDSU is leaving the MWC, its just a matter of when not if. They would have jumped if the P12 had offered, but they haven't yet which leaves them in limbo until they do.
They could be hoping for a bidding war to bring out between the B12 and the P12, but I just cannot see that happening.

That part has never been clear to me.

The only thing I can think of is that maybe they can take a small enough slice of the pie for the first 5 years to make the other school's slice marginally bigger.

But as a whole, I don't know how adding more supply solves the lack of demand from TV partners...

It is comical how the storyline continually recycles.

But if DP is right and the Pac12 is looking to add 4 teams there could be some logic:
  1. GK bought a 20 year supply of Pac12 stationery, so anything less than 12 team is a non-starter. So he's just covering his bases if CU and UA leave.
  2. 4 new teams means 4 more shares of CFP money. Indicates that the TV media rights deal is inferior and they need playoff money to make the existing Pac10 schools whole. In essence SDSU, SMU, UNLV and BSU are smoking pot without inhaling.

Dan Patrick totally whiffed on a report of SDSU joining the Pac-12 last fall, so I'm not taking his sources seriously.
DP is not a legitimate source for news. He doesn’t break stories, he just talks about them on his radio broadcast/podcast

It’s clear when you think about it from the perspective of a current PAC team leaving. It’s not about being “additive” at that point. It’s about having enough teams for a viable conference.

This has got to be complete BS. If there was any meeting of the PAC and Boise State was even discussed, Yormark's phone would have been ringing non-stop from schools ready to bail.
You have to remember that there aren't a lot of great fits at a lower level to promote. IF the Pac feels they're going to lose 2 (Oregon/Washington or Arizona/Colorado) or more, those would be logical fits as replacements. It's also possible that the media numbers that have come in are borderline and it's a potential expansion for the inevitable loss of 2 or more later.

Whether through remaining as-is or backfilling, the Pac will survive in some form for quite a while, even if a shell of itself.

The PAC probably still is calling TT and Kansas to see if they will come. I don’t fully trust tech for some reason.

I'd assume adding SDSU, UNLV, SMU and UNLV would be to back fill for 4 team leaving the current PAC10 and the conference going into survival mode.
Agreed the tweet seems to imply that SDSU and SMU will be added, with UNLV and BSU as long shots. I think the long shot possibilities are if more teams end up leaving, like UofA and CU to Big12 / UW and UO to B1G. If both of those pairs leave...then maybe they just stay at 10 or keep mining the MWC for teams?

Haven't we already signed a grant of rights for the next contract? Can't see anyone leaving until the next round of contracts starts.

I guess my point was that the PAC talking about Boise St and UNLV is almost a self-fulfilling prophesy that they are done. If a combination of UO/UW plus CU/UA leave, there is no way ASU and UU won't be right behind them to the Big 12. If it is the 4 corner schools leaving for the Big 12, it is hard to imagine OU/UW even doing a 4-5 year GOR with the remaining schools.
