It’s sad that Boise finally makes the jump 20 years too late. Their academics were dismal, and the PAC was never going to call them back then, but they could hang with anybody on the field in the Petersen days.

Look at what moving up to P5 did for TCU and Utah. Boise was right in there in that era

Would NDSU jump up to MWC?
They're gone. XDSUs, Montanas and Idaho are locks for the new Mountain West.

This also fixes the issues with FCS football and it can get back to it's roots as a cost controlled Division I. It's a fantastic day to be UNI and Illinois State and Southern Illinois.

I just don’t really see what the point of this PAC 12 move is. Its like they went “what if we rebuilt the Mountain West but with a different name”
That is the point. PAC12 still has better name recognition/prestige than Mountain West. You take the best of the Mountain West, Oregon St and Washington State. Maybe a Tulsa or something and continue the PAC12 brand.

Doesn’t this all seem like rearranging the deck chairs on the titanic? I mean, the Pac 12 name carries some cache but they aren’t a power conference and won’t be considered one.

Anyone want a guess as to what a media deal would like once they get to 8 teams?

They should change the conference name to 6 Pac.
Dang it happened just like that. Guess I'm used to a long drawn out process like the last few years. Again this sucks, it's the little guys who get left out. But some schools will get to "move up" the conference ladder so there's that at least.

They can take only the upper half of the MW by keeping the PAC name. If they joined the MW, there isn’t the opportunity to discard the anchors.

Every time I see that Fresno logo and that bulldogs expression, I always think of this gif because I feel like it gives these vibes.

The Monty Show reported yesterday that the SDSU athletic director revealed that SDSU declined an invitation to join the Big 12. Apparently the invite was extended back when the Pac was circling the drain and it included only a 1/2 share with no opportunity to receive a full share. SDSU's AD said they declined the invitation because they felt like they would always be on the bottom looking up, and their real desire was to join the Pac.

What is the alternative?

The P12 gets an invite to playoff each year, while the MWC doesn't. i would guess that by keeping the P12 going, the invite will stay the same at least until the other schools vote to change it. If that is true, it will bring more money into the conference for the new schools than if they had stayed in the mountain west.

Wouldn’t they want to eventually get back to 10 and seek NCAA approval to reinstate a conference championship game to boost any money they can get at this point?

Yes, but better to be a stronger G5 than weaker or independent.

This is incorrect. The playoff invite is to the top 5 ranked leagues, not named specifically. Top 4 league champions get byes.

The 12 participating teams will be the five conference champions ranked highest by the CFP selection committee, plus the next seven highest-ranked teams.
  • The four highest-ranked conference champions will be seeded one through four and will receive a first-round bye. The fifth conference champion will be seeded where it was ranked or at No. 12 if it is outside the top 12 rankings. Non-conference champions ranked in the top four will be seeded beginning at No. 5. Because of this, the seeding, 1 through 12, could look different than the final rankings.
