It's pretty simple if the players are only playing to satisfy the fan base and not for their own pride and love of the game, we are going to end up on the losing side more times. So to hint at fans effecting Hilton Magic, um.. sorry you are wrong it's the players that keep fighting to get back into the game that creates Hilton Magic.

Get yelled at for rushing the court. Get yelled at for rushing the parking lot.

Can't win around here.

Well, it is hard to guess what the "Bossy-pants, Think Like Me, Act Like Me" folks will want you to do. We need more Stepford Fans!

Let me just say this. The basketball takes up like 2hrs of the night. During 119 of those 120 minutes I don't care if people want to leave. It's their own idiotic preference. However fans need to stop leaving during the 3-minutes-remaining-in-the-game fight song. How freaking disrespectful. Cheer for your school. Sing the damn song. Stay out of the flag runner's way. Then race to your car so you can make it home for your How I Met Your Mother reruns while the rest of us cheer the team to end of the game.

Got it. They should leave at half time to make sure they're home in time to catch the last 3 minutes on tv.

So . . . you think the fans have nothing to do with Hilton Magic? The players could be playing in an empty Hilton? That may be true for OU, but I don't think it is true for us. Haven't you heard them talk about how much they love the fans and how the fans "have their back?"

It isn't just one thing. Of course, they play for themselves, their pride, their brothers, . . . but a wildly supportive crowd is an asset we call Hilton Magic (which is weakened when it becomes clear that hundreds or thousands of fans are leaving).

Because they don't just stand at the wall they crowd the whole concourse. It is a pain the in *** if you are trying to come and go to the bathroom. Surprised a fire marshall hasn't said anything to ISU yet.

So we should all stay until the end and then get dismissed one section at a time to avoid the concourses being too crowded so as to avoid a fire marshall issue? The concourses will be packed regardless if some people leave two minutes early or if everybody stays until the end.

I can almost guarantee all of you that every single college team has a portion of their fans leave early. It happens. And every single college team's fans boo the officials, boo the opposing team, think they got screwed, think the students should cheer louder, think the old people should cheer louder, don't think you should ever storm the court/field, think the 6th man should be starting, etc... But I guess if we acknowledged this, we wouldn't have much use for this message board, would we?

the players create hilton magic by playing well and fighting.. That feeds the fans. It starts with the players. We could have a sold out arena but we won't have hilton magic if the players don't create it. Really isn't that difficult to understand.

Yes I support our players no matter what and glad with have a fan base that does the same but to put blame on a small percentage of fans leaving for taking away the hilton magic for the players is dumb. They were flat in a ton of areas and they know that the coaches know that and they will get it figured out.

I need to quit posting drunk...watching replay, if we hit 5-6 threes we might win. However if KU doesn't turn it over 20 times we lose by at least 20

Not so fast. The TV announcers last night hit upon something I have said for years. The crowd in Hilton will sometimes sense that the team needs some energy and get spontaneously loud and more into the game to pick them up; crowd feeding the team rather than the other way around. Sure usually it is the team doing something to get the crowd into it but that isn't the only way Hilton Magic happens. The announcers also said that this is not common across college basketball and that is part of what makes Hilton Magic special.

Very well said. I agree. Sometimes Hilton Magic is about fans feeding on the performance of the players, but other times it is players feeding off the crowd. They talk about it all the time.

its was my first time at Hilton last night.. is it the norm for entire sections to only cheer when we make baskets. was trying to make some noise while KU was on offense, and sad to say I felt less weird at the game in Lawrence last year yelling my head off.

I will leave when I want to leave, and I don't have to justify it to anyone.
fair enough, just don't be expected back in if ISU comes back and sends it to Overtime (not saying it to you, everyone who left 2 minutes early to their car). Heat vs Spurs game 6 was a pretty good example of this.

Those players played with no heart and gave the fans nothing to cheer for, usually I agree but as a top ten team getting embarassed like that at home is awful

It's frustrating for sure but our guys did play hard. We missed shots and got beat on the boards. Kansas is long and athletic and played well. @GoSTATE71 Get your head back in the game and get ready for Texas.

Easy there Lee Corso on EA NCAA Football...It's awesome that our crowd is doing that at times. Apparently everything is taking literally on these boards, of course our crowd can start getting loud spontaneously but 9/10 it's because something our players have done, made a shot, good defensive set and that is what the announcers touched on the fact even if we are down by 15 and make a shot the crowd gets into it or get a huge defensive stop the crowd gets in full force.

This seemed like a tough game for our crowd. It seemed like whenever our crowd got into it, one of two things would happen. Either Kansas would immediately make a big shot to shut them up or Bill Self would actually do a really good job at taking timeouts to prevent the crowd from getting nasty.

If there is any advantage to Hilton Magic, and I think there certainly is, then I want us to use it. Lots of people leaving early when the game can still be won is just crazy. It reminds me of the times when Pollard had to encourage us to get into Jack Trice for kickoff because he thought it helped us get off to a better start.

You are wrong. There are times when the team is not doing anything well and after a made basket by the opponent the crowd will get loud trying to get the team going. That is exactly what they were talking about.

I was disappointed that fans left early as well. As noted, a fairly sizable group left before the 2 minute mark. For this game I happened to have seats right behind the KU bench. Bill Self noted the fans leaving...that is why he took a timeout with about 15 seconds left. We heard him say, "let the place completely empty out." He wanted Hilton to look empty for the cameras. Unfortunately...it did.

Don't like hearing that.

I will say that there was one lame attempt to start their obnoxious RCJHKU chant, but it was small and only once. I don't think the Cyclone fans nearby let it go farther...
